  • I'm not a fitness expert by any means, but I would recommend you read up a bit on Ab Belts before investing in them. The best solution is probably the unglamorous, but tried-and-true crunch.

Those links should help. Electric stimulation will keep the muscles from atrophy, but I doubt they are going to do much in terms of a "rock hard core"...especially not for the cost.

Explosive bellies (like the one I have...heh, so I feel your pain) are caused partially by fat, but also by weak muscles. If you want to see how much of it is fat vs weak muscle, or at least a good guesstimate, lean back in a chair, suck in your belly, and then feel the "puff" (for lack of a better term) between your epidermis and your layer of muscle.

When attacking the belly, you should note that there are a few different muscles which cause the budda to rear out.

Though hitting all the groups is great, you specifically want to target the obliques and transverse abdominus to see a decrease in waist. Again, crunches are a great way to do this, or any exercise that causes you to work your core in a twisting motion (certain types of dancing, crossover sprints http://magazine.stack.com/Exercises/1730/CrossoverCrossover_sprints.aspx , etc.). The more rigorous the exercise, the better the results!

Great crunch demonstrations (linked first of 4 vids)...probably want to work all of these into a regular routine.

    Good luck!

I don't know anything personally about the abdominal belts, but I have read that they don't really work. Sometimes I have heard that people have that issue that their inner abdomial muscle layers are not toned even when they work the outside through cruches, sit ups, etc. Pilates moves are supposed to be good for strengthening the whole core. Planks and side planks are also great for toning all of the muslce layers. One thing that may sound a little weird is to do singing exercises. There are certain exercises to try and train a singers breathing that require heavy engagement of the core muscles particularly the diaphram. I am an operatically trained singer and I have a great stomach while the rest of me is flabby as hell. I think it is because of all of the breathing exercises that are required of singers. When I stopped singing for a while I noticed my stomach start to get much less toned. Here is one if you are interested. There are more to be found using google.

  • Take Robin William's Advice on this and don't buy one of those belts unless you're going to strap it to your head and tell yourself not to buy things that don't work.

All of the things suggested sound good, but I figured I'd add that belly dancing is a GREAT way to tone up your core. You'll discover muscles you didn't know you had.
  • Dose not work.. don't waste your money.. give it to charity then at least your money will at work.
