My friend who is american is having a 4th of July party tomorrow as 4th July is a weekday and we'll be at work.

I live in the UK and this will be my first ever 4th July Party.

My question is, what are the 4th July traditions. What do guests normally bring? Can you suggest any gifts I buy for my friend who is feeling a little homesick?

Thanks in advance! :-)

Alcohol if you drink.. If it's a BBQ a side dish that would go with it or a dessert. Fire works..

Though 4th of July is my wedding anny.. So not sure what we are doing. If we are going to go to Shreveport and enjoy fireworks at the boardwalk or go to a friends house for a BBQ

If children are going to be there, they absolutely love glow sticks or glow necklaces & bracelets for when it gets dark!

red white and blue everything (blueberries, strawberries and coolwhip; or strawberry and blueberry jello shots with whipped cream, clothing, decorations - everything). fireworks after dark (sparklers or whatever you can find), barbecue - grilled foods or smoked like hamburgers, hotdogs, bratwurst or other sausages, chicken with barbecue sauce, steaks, smoked anything, along with traditional picnic sides - potato salad, pasta salad, chips and dip, stuff like that, That's really it. its about food, family and friends, fireworks and a little patriotism in the way of flags and the bombs bursting in air (fireworks).
