A new Beginning

Over the years I've done a variety of diets, Cambridge, Low Carb, Low Fat, Cottage Cheese and Grapefruit, All the Potatoes you want, each diet I had different results I had myself looking fairly good at one time. The bad thing was once you stopped drinking the shakes and soups you gained everything back plus some. A bout 3 years ago I finally gave up and pretty much ate what ever I wanted. I ballooned up to near 400 lbs. I'm only 5 foot 6 so I was as big around as I was tall. Then 2 years ago I wanted to have a sit-down job so I applied for one and got the job the only thing is couldn't pass the physical because my A1C was high. The doctor asked me how long had I been Diabetic? I didn't know I was, you would think that would scare me into losing weight getting my self back to a healthy status. No I start taking pills to keep my blood sugar at bay and I go through denial, thinking I could eat anything I wanted and the medicine would take care of the sugar. I did that for over a year, my blood sugar rose to an astounding 520. I finally got it in my head I need to see a doctor that knew what he was doing and get me straightened out. I made an appointment with the leading Diabetic doctor in to town. He took me in and has turned my life around, I have had blood sugars at 90 to 110 for a month now. He had me give up all starches, I began eating fruits, vegetables and beans. I gave up most red meats going to fish, turkey and chicken, eating salads and watching added fats.
My new lifestyle is great and I feel so much better...baby steps, one pound at a time....

here are a few tips that I found to work for me:
1. Make MFP your home page
2. Log in EVERYDAY, read the message boards... post.. Keep your mind actively thinking about it.
3. Don't try to change too much at once, Implement 1 change every week or so. Little tweeks over time seem to work best or at least better than butt load of change all at once
4. Always be honest. We al fall on our way to the top, be honest, no one is judging you here... we all support eachother
5. Keep trying new things until you find what works for you (It took me a while to find my plan and it works great for me but I wouldn't push it on anyone else)
6. Its easier to lift weights than the burdens of carrying weight.
7. take it one day at a time.
8. Have a cheat day or meal, where you eat what you want
9. Try to talk to yourself as if you are talking to your child or loved one. Often times the thing we need most is to be a better friend to ourselves.
