Are saturated fats really unhealthy as people make them seem? Also is a serving of chips lets say ( Andy Caps Hot Fries ) ok to eat as a snack like every other day? Or is it no completely?

It depends on what your goals are, what else you're eating, etc. If you eat well and can still achieve your goals with the chips, then eat the chips. I love Baked Lay's and eat them about once a week.

It's fine to have some chips here and there, as long as your within your calorie goals. I recently found pringles in snack size containers. 110 calories, and I've still been able to keep under my calories and lose weight.

This is a link that the doctors I work for, use to print out for patients. They use this site because its in an easy-to-read-and-understand format.

Fat that comes from fruit and plants and maybe even some types of nut and veggie oils are okay in moderation. Saturated fats are fats from animal protein. Probably should try to stay away from saturated fats as much as possible in order to meet goals. But if you eat saturated fats you are risking consuming more cholesterol. Cholesterol is not just bad for weight goals, it blocks arteries and can, over time, cause heart and weight problems. I know it is hard to avoid those kinds of fats altogether, I mean, I know this information, I have a degree in Culinary Arts, yet I still eat it. It is important to know what you are eating and always in moderation. And if you can help it, avoid most types of animal fats. The ultimate goal would be to eat meat about once or twice a week, but.... C'mon, being a non vegetarian human being.... that is difficult.

"Saturated fats" are neither good, nor bad. We've figured out a lot of new information over the last few years. It used to be fat was bad, then they did more research and decided that saturated fat was bad, unsaturated fat was good. Now we've figured out that there are good saturated fats, and bad saturated fats, as well as good unsaturated fats, and bad unsaturated fats. So, there is no straightforward answer. A fat like stearic acid is incredibly heart healthy, but it's also saturated (found in butter.) Same with lauric acid (from coconut oil, also saturated.) Then there's the fact that unsaturated fats can oxidize relatively easily, which can be bad, but some of them are also Omega-3's, which are good. Personally, I wouldn't worry much about saturated vs unsaturated. Avoid artificial trans-fats (natural trans-fats are actually quite healthy) and don't really worry about specific fat breakdowns, otherwise.

As for chips for snacks, sure. As long as you hit protein, fat, and micronutrient goals, you can snack on whatever you want.

ummmm sorry but I was the one who initially posted it.... We use this as an easy reference when we talk with our patients...in just about all specialties of medicine.
