I need new running shoes for flat feet?

I'm looking to buy new running shoes as a reward for myself in the next couple weeks (hopefully) and I have no clue what type of shoes to get. I had a really great pair of running shoes that I used to wear when I played basketball in high school, but when I tried using them to work out/go for walks they started causing a LOT of pain in the arch of my foot and started giving me shin splints.
After that, I realized that I can wear my converse to walk for long periods of time without any pain so I switched to wearing my converse while working out/running and they've been perfect so far. However, I've had them for a couple of years so they're starting to wear out to the point of being unwearable.
I did some research and found out that, either because of my weight or just my natural foot shape, I probably have low arches which causes over pronation of my feet which is what was causing the shin splints.
Is there a running shoe that would have a flat sole, as to not put an unwanted arch against my foot, but have more cushioning than a converse shoe would? I also really like the fact that the converse cover my ankle and make my ankle feel more safe, but it's something I could live without.
So to sum up - I am completely comfortable in shoes with no arch support (for running and high-impact workouts) I just want more cushioning on the bottom.

I cannot recommend enough getting your running gait analysed at a specialised running shop, they will then fit you with the correct running shoes.
I only recently did the same myself (three months ago), it was seriously the best move I have ever made, wish I had done so many years back.0 -
