Anyone that's had a pyloromyotomy? (pyloric stenosis)

I underwent a pyloromyotomy (surgery for pyloric stenosis) as an infant have had a belly pooch all of my life -- even as a little kid. I ate lots of junk and didn't exercise much as a kid and teenager but was so skinny I was almost underweight and had no fat on me anywhere except my belly. In adulthood, I slowly gained 50 lbs. over many years, then lost it all and I exercise regularly and eat healthy now. I still have the belly pooch and just can't get rid of it. I don't have kids and my only other surgery was laparoscopic gall bladder surgery, but they don't cut through much muscle for that type of surgery. Anyone out there who has had this surgery and have belly fat you can't get rid of?

  • Hi Basschick
just came across your query as I research & blog about people's experience with PS. Trust you don't mind my response tho' I'm male and in my late 60s.
What you mention is a common complaint, esp from those into fitness & bodybuilding - google for some of the sites with such comments.
Things to remember - 1) your belly shape is probably largely inherited. 2) Your PS open surgery will have done much more damage than lap surgery in that area. 3) Scar tissue is not elastic like normal tissue and muscle, our body normally grows more fat layers but not where there's a blocking and deep surgical scar, and your surgery will have caused adhesions (that's normal) which also pulls your scar in - all of which means the tissue on both sides of the scar will bulge out, emphasizing the scar. Then 4) there's age - your photo tells me your figure is on the slim/lanky side, much like mine. I also could eat as much as i liked for many years, but as the years passed i put on some weight/bulge down my front (as many men esp do) and this has emphasized my ps scar which is vertical. Transverse or cross scars often emphasize bulging even more.
Exercise may help a bit, some PSers have had plastic surgery, but other than that, don't worry, like me you're a survivor! Best wishes,
    Fred V

My son had this surgery at age 27 days and has a fantastic physique. Very muscular, nothing leftover from the surgery except about a 4 inch lateral scar over the upper right abdomen. He has an amazing "six-pack" and is very active. He's 29 years old.
