How accurate are HRM?

I got a new HRM that you where around your waist. I did a 3.37mile walk and it says I burned 542 calories in 59min 34 sec. A similar walk w/o a HRM was 3.84miles in 1 hour 7 mins 56sec and only recorded 380 calories. The walk w/o the HRM was using my phones Endomondo GPS to track where I walked, how fast I walked, etc. The walk w/ the HRM was also w/ endomondo synching to the HRM.
So which is truly accurate?

It depends on your weight and your BF%, but the 500 figure seems high to me.0

What kind of HRM? Also, have you set up the user profile for your height/weight/gender? It might very well be accurate, and it might not be. It really depends on your weight and BF% and how high your heart rate is getting during your workout. Are you walking hills? You will burn more on a hilly trail than on a treadmill or flat path.0

Zephyr......Yep account has sex, age, current weight and BMI
It's not a flat surface. HR was between 117 to 1530
