frustrated

Anyone have any encouraging words for me?

Last Monday at Boot Camp, I stupidly tumbled down a hill. :explode: I tried to keep working out because I was part of a team and didn't want to let the others down. But I had to give up after a little while. :grumble:

Nearly a week later, my knee is still bruised and quite swollen.

I went to Acute Care on Friday afternoon after some friends convinced me I should get it x-rayed.
The x-ray didn't show anything broken.

But I am so frustrated as I had gotten addicted to working out. Unless I do some cardio every day I feel like a slug.

I tried walking at a good pace for exercise on Thursday night and paid for that in pain on Friday.

I've already accepted that I can't do the 1/2 marathon that I was going to do next weekend. I will volunteer instead.

But I need someone (or a few someones) to tell me that it will be okay!

IT WILL BE OKAY!!! rest get better and you will be ready to get back to it. Keep up good eating and it will be OKAY!!! I hurt my back a few weeks ago and I had to stop most of my regular work out I have still managed to keep up my weight loss by eating good and walking. I know its tough but keep a postive focus on what you still can do to keep you motivated!!!

    Best Wishes

You'll be ok... sounds like you're more hurt emotionally than physically- sometimes that can be worse :ohwell: I have a funny feeling that you'll be surprised how much it helps you feel better to volunteer at the race even though you can't run in it.

Best of luck to you, hoping for a speedy recovery for you!
  • My advice: stay off your feet as much as possible. Ice your knee & take an anti-flammatory (aleve, motrin, etc) to ease the pain if needed. Once you've gone a couple days with no pain or tenderness resume working out, but start out with low impact activities.

I feel your pain :( I started w/MFP after recovering from an injured foot--I slipped on a water puddle in a store parking lot while wearing flip flops :( By the end of the day I was hopping on 1 foot. I hung out on the couch & iced it all night Friday, all day Saturday, & part of Sunday. By then I could put pressure on without pain, but waited until Wednesday to join MFP & start working out. I didn't have any trouble w/it after that.

If you don't allow injuries to heal properly you'll just end up taking longer to heal-speaking from the experience off dealing w/an inflamed rotator cuff for almost 2 months because the injury was caused by a combination of the way I sleep, the weight off my work bag, & working w/kids and it took me forever to find ways to consistently change my routines so I could heal.

I know it's hard but it is definitely better to rest and let your knee heal properly otherwise you risk further injury. Just keep making good food choices and maybe see if you can do some type of upper body workout. Maybe that will help you feel better since you can't do cardio or anything that effects your knee! Hang in there.

    thanks everyone.
It does help to hear that others have healed and gotten back on track.
I am back to journaling my foods tomorrow.
And I will do crunches and lift weights tomorrow.
Hopefully the trainer will have some good upper body stuff for me to do at Boot Camp tomorrow too.
I feel the need to go as it is the first session for the month.

    thanks :drinker:
