i've lost 40 pounds this year by restricting to 1200 calories a day (but always eating back exercise calories). the last couple of weeks i have had static weight and then this week a one pound gain. so i am considering increasing my calories to 1400 (my bmr). i have another 40 pounds to lose. did anyone who has tried this gain weight initially? how long should i perservere until i should start losing? im a bit nervous about doing this. i cant stop worrying that i will start putting the weight back on

thanks for your advice

I have lost 36 in the first 4 months, now it has slowed dramatically. I am also interested in any advice you get.

Hi I had 93lbs to lose started at 1310 cal as I didn't know about BMR TDEE
I was losing slow lowered to 1250 and gained read and was told about eat more to weigh less I gradually upped weekly over 6 weeks reached 1785 cal and had my first gain in 16 weeks!!
    I lowered it again bit it's +. - + - each week and I'm 100% and workout 5-6 days a week

I never eat exercise calories and eat as healthy as I can afford

Always be careful on how many calories you log for exercise no calculator is accurate even fitbits polar hrms

Your BMR is what you body uses at rest but our mwtabolisms are all different so we all have to find the right amount and nI one is the same

    All you can do is
    Weigh & measure everything
    Exercise
    Eat as healthy as possible
    Log everything asap
    Drink water
This depends on your weight height etc exercise routeen
Our body's get used to what we do every 6 weeks have a day off change your calories and exercise

I'd eat 1500 if I was you for 6 weeks see how you do 1400 is low

You'll lose a lot of weight to start with as your glycogen stores are used up. Water weight loss in effect.

Had exactly the same thing happen, lost loads and then gained it back when I started exercising. If I've learnt anything here, it would be to eat above your BMR. That is what your body needs to keep it healthy, or, indeed what my body has needed to lose weight :) I now eat around 1700/day (although I do it on a weekly goal basis). I had 40Ibs to lose.

I upped calories without staggering and had no problems (no weight gain), some people prefer to stagger the increase - guess it depends on how you feel and what works for you :)

Edit: take photos btw, you may not be losing but you'll see a difference in the photos. And measure yourself!!

I started off with my loss setting at 2lbs(1kg) per week. I lost dramatically at first them stalled.

I upped calories (by changing the setting to 1.5 lbs per week loss) and started the losing again.

For the past 4 weeks I have been hovering around the same weight so I upped calories again last week (setting .5lb per week) and managed to lose a kilo (2lbs)

I does work ... dont be scared of an initial gain - I found it falls off ...with interest after a few days.

ive just checked what MFP reccommends i eat everyday to lose 2lbs per week and it is 1260 calories a day. i just cant see that increasing by 60 calories per day will make much for a difference

Weightloss always slows down as the time goes on.

Overestimation of calories burned and an underestimation of calories consumed is a very common cause of weightloss ceasing. Before altering any daily calorie allowance, it is always best to go over previous entries in the food diary to check that everything was as it should be and bad estimations or food not weighed happened - because these sort of things can scupper any weightloss and no amount of altering daily allowances will bring on more weightloss in these cases.

I eat all the MFP calories and usually within 100-150 of the exercise calories. Although since upping calories this last time I do sometimes struggle to eat my exercise calories back.

Eating exercise calories is I feel not accurate as we don't know how many we are truly burning no machine is spot on this is why I never eat exercise calories as over under eating is highly possible
