New scale is adding 7 pounds? Help!

My old scale is really unpredictable and can vary within a range of about 5-7 pounds, so I usually weigh myself a bunch of times on weigh-in day and use the highest number. Finally I am frustrated with it, so I decided to get a new scale. The new one is predictable and the same every time. The problem is that it is 7 pounds higher than what I usually am. So I'm freaking out. I was planning on just starting at whatever the new scale says, but after losing 33 pounds, the thought of going back to saying I have lost 26 pounds makes me want to cry because that is a month of hard work that I lose. I know that my body is the same no matter what that number is and I love how I look, but I also need that number to keep me moving forward. Right now I am 207. I started at 240. I would be fine saying now that I am 210, but 214 is just too depressing. What should I do?

I would stick to the 33 lb loss. If it is 7 lbs off that would be for your starting weight too. So you may have started at 247.

My vote would be to recognize you are just changing scales as a reference point, you still lost about the same weight I would expect. You could reset your starting weight 7 pounds higher, and keep the 33 pounds lost, and your sanity.

Progress is progress. You amount you lost has not changed. You may have started at a slightly higher weight than you thought but it doesn't change the success you have been having. Wether the scale reads 240 - 207 = 33 or 247 - 214 = 33, you have made substantial progress toward your goal.
