I know most gyms have tv's while you do a workout! but i find listening to my mp3 with my favorate tunes motivates me to work harder and faster, and i feel ive acheived a lot more at the end! i usually listen to fast paced heavy metal! mostly metallica!! whats your favorite for motivation??

in addition to above question! it seems a majority of people seem to like the heavier side of music ( rock, metal) why do gyms play dancy tunes? would love it if my local played what i class (proper stuff)

  • Shine from The Used.

"it's my time to shine, do it my way cuz it's my time baby
it's my time to burn, start a fire, be the one and only
    I said it
    I meant it
    I never will forget it
    change never happens by itself
it's my time to burn, my time to shine.
time to make it for myself."

^All because of that line. Love it :)

The right music makes such a difference! When I used to do the recumbent bike I listened to a combination of the few upbeat pop songs I could stand and the music I normally listen to Slipknot, Ozzy, Skid Row etc. These days I'm working out at Curves and they play music there but it's soo repetitive. I want to get a new mp3 player and load up on good tunes again.
I was recently reminded of my favourite song to work out to: Batdance by Prince! lol you laugh it works.

These are the first 6 songs on my workout playlist
Cult of Personality - Living Color
Operation Ground and Pound - Dragonforce
Head Like a Hole, Terrible Lie - NIN
The Trooper, Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden

Then I hit shuffle and have stuff like this in there
Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Offspring, Rancid, Bad Religion, Muse

It's 9.99/month for mobile but Spotify is freaking awesome www.spotify.com

Dance and rap mostly. Now and then I get in the mood from some 80s music. :)

    Hard, fast, dirty techno!

Stuff I would never be able to keep up with in a club, but boy does it work when I train!!

Can't train without music and will admit that I've turned walked out when I've realised I left my iPod at home.......shame on me!!

Operation Ground and Pound - Dragonforce

I do my running or elliptical to the tempo of this song, if you want a killer burn try it.

    This is an appropriate app:

When you log in, it looks at the time of year and the time of day and then it recommends a bunch of playlists based on different genres. So right now it says find music for "Sunday Late Morning". I can pick summertime playlists, waking up playlists, reading the paper, recovering from last night, cooking etc. And each of those has sub playlists based to drill down to the genre of music you want to hear, like sunshine-y indie music or 90s pop etc.
