Surely there's no such thing as the perfect diet? We're all different! I've lost the weight I have purely by counting calories and doing a little exercise. A little of everything, as long as you're under the calorie goal set for you. It's worked for me - and my diary is nowhere near what I'd call perfect.

    Good luck everyone xx

Well what I'm getting at is this.

If the world's greatest nutricianists all got together and came up with the perfect nutrcianally beneficial daily food diary, what would it look like? I'm guessing fresh fruit and veg would feature, some oily fish, some lean chicken, what do you reckon?
  • This saturday I was very pleased with myself so I'll nominate that day's :L

Breakfast - soya&linseed bread toast with crunchy peanut butter

Lunch - Waitrose lemon sole goujons, salad with peas, cherry tomatoes & honey mustard dressing, with a Waitrose ginger & dark choc oat bar for dessert (they are delicious and actually quite good, 120 cals, 11g sugar, you wouldn't think they;re so guilt-free to taste them!)

    Afternoon snack - banana

Dinner - homemade beef curry with bombay potatoes & a bit of naan bread

I also did a nice brisk walk/jog (I run for one song, walk for one song, repeat :P) and lots of painting the house which burned about ~400 cals, which left me about 320 under my goal (net was1305)! :D

Mine's perfect. I had 2500 calories worth of Chili's and beer last night for dinner. What could be better than that?

Mine is great. I meet my protein goals, fat goals and calorie goals. and eat yummy food. I would like to have some less processed but it is what it is.

    Nominations here please

I'm aware that the perfect food diary won't apply to everyone as we have different goals - but the principles will be similar

So do you want to nominate yours? I'll be very interested to see some good examples

This post makes NO SENSE!!! The perfect food diary is the one that works for the person to whom it belongs. It, like its owner is PERFECTLY - IMPERFECT

WHY make this a contest...WHO said there are "BASICS"? That right there shows that YOU need some education on Nutrition. And WHO is the "JUDGE" of THIS CONTEST...SURELY NOT YOU! SMH

Oh jeez, I wasn't judging the Nobel peace prize nominees! I was just hoping to see someone's diary who has spent time and effort in researching the correct nutrients and macros and health foods so I could see what I should aspire to.

Mine is poor so wanted inspiration from the experts!

Somedays mine is perfect, other days, not so perfect. The perfect days are great, but the not perfect days tend to involve chocolate cake or ice cream, or cookies or an outright binge, lol.

I've spent quite a lot of time reading about nutrition, and my diet is pretty high in saturated fat.

Why are you looking for perfection?

its our imperfections that make us educational.

And you're looking to MPF for 'expert advice'? My friend, each diary you look at is a solution unto itself, written by and for the person who owns it. If someone gains weight by eating rice, you can guarantee someone else here will lose loads by eating it. Paleo, low carbers, bingers, IFers, South beachers, vegans, vegetarians, MPF has them all. And everything in between.

Take me. I really struggle to get in 80g plus protein in a day, and yet loads of people here have 100 plus with a meal. But its suits me fine, cause I'm doing my best with it.

Experiment and find what's the right diet/food combos/lifestyle right for YOU, and have fun doing it :-)

Mine is filled in religiously. I cannot eat anything without putting it in my diary. It's an assault on my conscience. Sodium is always a challenge for me, keeping it under 2500, that is. On days when I have an egg, cholesterol is difficult to maintain but I don't have an egg very often (mainly because of that). I try to go over on fiber and protein and succeed, I would guess, about 30% of the time, which really isn't bad.

Healthy eating is a full time job. It's not "just" about weight loss. I could treat my body like a trash can, feed it junk food, still stay within my daily calories and still lose weight.....but is that healthy? Nutrition is not about weight loss, although weight loss can be a by product. It goes beyond carbs, proteins, fats, sugars and sodium. Vitamins and minerals are very important too and we need to incorporate foods that contain them.

Looking at a person's food diary won't tell you much; getting to know a person's intention and purpose might. We're all walking down the same path here but for different reasons.

I've read so many threads that say, "I don't care about the health aspect, I just want to look hot and good without clothes." I've read other threads that say, 'I don't want my family's medical history to become my story."

These are two different mindsets that may very well end up with the same external result - weight loss, but may have different internal results.

Perhaps the question you need to ask is why we're doing this, why are we on this path and what are we using as means to our specific end.
