    Good morning ladies!

I had a busy weekend and wasn't able to get on the computer. This weekend was the last weekend the pool was going to be open, so we went to the pool Saturday and Sunday. The water was SOOOOO cold!!!! We were there longer than I was originally planning (originally: meaning when my big toe first hit the cold water! ). Yesterday we went to Discovery Place in Charlotte. We hadn't been there in 3 years, so we thought the kids would really enjoy it even better now. It's been around since I was a kid, so they're renovating most of it now. Unfortunately, that meant that the only thing open was the IMAX and the Shipwrecks exhibit. I think dh and I enjoyed the exhibit better than the kids, but they still had a good time.

My orthotic inserts seem to be working great. Yesterday was the first time I've walked that long with them, and I could really tell when I got home. But it was much better than without them!

    My goals for the week:
drink all my water every day
    walk a mile every day
Actually WALK to pick up the kids Tue, Thur, & Fri instead of DRIVING to the walker area.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!

Argh! Caden and I are still sick! :grumble: This head/chest cold just makes me want to sleep......so that is what I am going to do ....go lie back down!

Good news though! My oldest got a job!!! Waiting tables.

    Have a good day everyone.

i'm beat all. so off to bed--:flowerforyou:
  • good morning girls.

lettuce how are you and caden feeling?

i walked the dogs for twenty five min plus elliptical trainer for 25 min so i should not have a problem staying in my calorie limits today.

ellitical really gets your heart pumping and burns those calories.

    Hello!

I did it! I made my goals yesterday. I walked to pick up the kids from school yesterday which is 1.4 miles round trip. I also got all my water in. I didn't do too badly on calories either. I was over, but not by much.

Angl - good job on the exercise!! :flowerforyou:

Lettuce - how are you and Caden feeling? And congratulations to your oldest's job!

Well, I came to work today without my water bottle. The church has some water bottles left over from the bluegrass festival a couple weeks ago, so I thought I'd put one in the freezer to cool it quickly. Unfortunately, as usual, I forgot about it. I was busy with other things. So now, I'm sitting here with a bottle of ice.

kids went back to school here today so that was a tough one emotional for me youngest in preschool for half a day and middle one in reception class so first day in school for the whole day, eldest well I am used to him being in school it was weird with an empty house this morning and then just one child this afternoon that being said I went running as planned 30 mins burned 400 cals sore shins now though gonna ice them later then this affy went for a walk for an hour with youngest and dogs then back to school to collect others walking as normal.

Next week when hubby is back in work I will add a jillian dvd to my workout 5 x a week so it will be run then dvd when I get home was going to do it this week but decided that I should ease myself in slowly last week was diet sorted and this week some exercise and next week all out crazy diet and extreme exercise til I am exhausted (well maybe not that bad but you know what I mean I have my goal and I will make it)

Cant help but feel sad that my kids are all growing up so fast good job I am busy making cakes tonight otherwise I will dwell on it and it might kill me. I also took another wedding cake order for next june so things are really looking up for my home business.

Oh well off to get dinner sorted lemon pepper salmon with homemade chunky chips (fries) and sausage for the kids their fav and not too unhealthy.

See ya for now hope everybody is feeling better soon.:flowerforyou:

in the interest of full disclosure

--on Monday i ate the ENTIRE snak sak of mini chips ahoy.
--on Tuesday I ate 6 (out of 8) of the Pepp Farm soft baked oatmeal raisin cookies (and then threw the 2 left into the big trash can)

--on Tues the kids had mcd (first time in at least 2 wks) and mommy only had some (10?) fries
    yay mommy!

and from the cookie notes above, you can see i have a problem. not letting myself have any is good; i was successful. but then i still have to eat them. and i love them and i eat too many. idk what to say for myself. :noway:
still maintaining and at least i didn't go buy more and was contemplating making the "kids" brownies today--but will not.

we are having sloppy joes for dinner. i actually made a menu plan for the month and that helps me tons. next weekend is rosh hashanah so i will have lots of "treats" then. so i must work extra hard this week. plus next week i'll be busy cooking and won't have as much time to exercise.

i am rambling now....time to have lunch (a pb banana smoothie)
    will check in later!

  • hello all.

boy did i drop my basket today.

stressed i fell right back into old habits. 20 choclate kisses,a diet coke, and a 100 gram bag of cheetos (568 kcal and 36 grams of fat)later . i KNOW better. lo and behold it did not make my father in law'swife's liver cancer go away.

i only ate 3 of 6 fruit/veggies today. already 7pm here so i will not be eating anything else today.
and exercise did not happen, no energy emotionally.
my goal tomorrow is to get right back on track. i will not allow today to break the good habits i have started forming.

also stressing about rosh hashanna next week. will be in the kitchen cooking for two days surrounded by yummy food. i hate cooking though so to "reward" myself i nosh through out the day.
bad habit , i will work on breaking it.

how do you stay away from food while cooking? gum? tea? wiring my mouth shut?

Well, yesterday wasn't so good for me for exercise or water. I didn't eat that well either. But I think I'm making up for it today. My truck broke down (fuel pump), and dh won't be able to fix it until this weekend. He had to work in Greensboro today (about 1.5 hrs away), so he dropped the kids off at school, came back to pick me up at the house, and dropped me off at work. Our church is 1.5 miles from our house, so I walked from work to the school to pick up the kids and then back to the house. I ended up walking 2 miles total! :drinker: I'm lovin' my orthotic inserts!

i'm jewish too! and my funny is how many raisin challahs to make (as i'm the only one eating them) vs plain. i don't need extra challahs but i eat a whole one (gulp!) before fasting for yom kippur. it's been my "secret" for making it thru the fast. my theory? it bloats up in my belly so much i feel full thru the holiday. hehe

#1 tip--have more fruits and veges as part of your dinner. or at least add one to your menu. (for ex, i serve a carrot dish and a honeyed sweet potato cass--no marshmallows involved)
#2 skip making kugel--save it for break the fast and then really yummy it up
#3 i make my soup from scratch and never taste it. i can go by smell to see what i need to add.
#4 chew gum or drink tea (peppermint in partic is supp to curb your appetite)
#5 see if your menu can live w/o certain irrestibles (for ex, if i were to make my brown sugar cookies--but i won't cuz they're milchig--i would have to eat tons. can't help myself. ) make something i don't care much about eating--apple pie? vs apple crumb cake (yum)
#6 have other people be your tasters
#7 how much can you make ahead and freeze and therefore can't be nibbling?
#8 practice not nibbling now--tell yourself that it's contaminated, or there won't be enuf to serve, or that it'll make you sick (raw eggs and all)
It's easier for me to say all this b/c I NEVER taste my cooking when i'm cooking. (which could expl in part why i'm not such a great cook!)

i know--i go on and on...just trying to help you think of lots of ways to make the holidays work for you. there's always going to be something (a bd, anniv, going away party, t-giving, etc), so plan for it and incorporate your success into the planning. try to take at least a 30min walk a day--to help keep you cool, to deal with the awful cancer news, to make you feel less guilty when you have 2 pieces of challah instead of one.

hth but feel free to pm or post anytime as you're doing this. i've been thru passover on mfp so i have that experience and confidence--i'm happy to share and cheer!

    later--:flowerforyou:

good for you! (bad for car but that's another story, right?)
keep drinking your water and just look at each food opportunity on its own. each time you make a good choice, you can feel good abt yrself.
for ex, i didn't want to get out of bed to walk this am but i knew i'd be mad at myself later for having missed the opportunity to get it done and be outside when it was cool. so up i got!

    glad your orthotics are helping!

need to get off this thing and go pay bills!!
  • today was my usual friday morning weigh in. i can't believe i lost a pound this week. was very annoyed with myself about yesterday after having such a good few days before, but i am getting right back on the horse. partially motivated by the fact that i felt so sick later that night (monster headache/stomach issues).

amy - glad to hear you walked so much pain free plus all that walking must help with raising water intake.
sorry about the car. amazing how much we rely on these things.

stacy - thanx for all the suggestions. some i have already tried, definetly going to try the mint tea and others. i didn't know it was supposedly an appetite suppresant. i can get fresh mint in the market and i often put it in a pitcher of cold water with dinner to give it a minty taste. i will try it when i am cooking. the problem with tea is i like it sweet (1.5 t sugar per cup) - so too much and the calories add up.

once the holiday starts i don't have as much of a problem as i do while i am cooking. i always put out 3 or 4 salads on the table. in the winter i use cooked veggies a little more.

as far as kugel goes my boys only like potato kugel - which i do not like so it is the only one i make except for a salt and pepper noodle when we are eating with my in laws.(father in law loves it) i stopped making all the other kind especially veggie bc hubby and i were the only one eating them so i switched to salads. no reason to ruin the yummy veggies with all that fat etc.

i dont make soup untill after succot i live in israel and it is too hot here for soup. that being said i make a variety of soups from veggies all low cal and yum. all except one kid loves all my soups.

i find just the stress and visual stimulation of cooking all that food makes me noshy. my plan - mint water/tea, bbq rice cakes, fruit/veggies, gum.(treat myself to sushi for dinner if i have enough calories left at the end of the day) and exercise every day at least a little no matter what.

i do bake but not alot the boys are more meat and potato guys so a cake and a batch of cookies is more that enough for the holidays( i always end up throughing some cake away) . for dessert they would much rather fresh seeded pomegranete (or whatever fruit is in season) or i make homemade strawberry applesauce.

i here you about the challah. i started buying small ones for shabbat b/c i was eating too much(MORE THAN TWO SLICES) and boys barely finished their slices (more interested in the meat).

i always end the meal before a fast with grapes i read somewhere that it keeps you fuller longer.
it does amaze me how i can fast for 25 hours on specific days but on a regular day i can't go with out eating or i feel sick (headache etc.)

we have two big family meals every weekend one friday night and one saturday afternoon. the only time we are all together. so every thursaday and friday i am busy shopping and cooking up a storm.
developing the will power not to indulge while cooking has proven to be a huge battle for me.

    thanx for listening and advice

Good morning! Well, DH won't be able to fix the truck until tomorrow, this afternoon at the earliest. So he dropped me off at work, and I'm walking home. Luckily, the high today is supposed to be 81, around 3 pm, so I should have a nice day for walking. And it's prettier today too.

angl - you're right about relying on our cars. I live only 1 1/2 miles from the church. I wouldn't normally think anything of walking that far for exercise. But yesterday when I realized I was going to have to walk home from work, I thought :noway:

angl--i didn't realize you lived in israel. from the sound of it, you are much more observant that we are. we are not shomer shabbos or even shomer yontif. we used to keep kosher when we lived in salt lake city, ut but stopped soon after moving here to las vegas. i still have separate everything (b/c i have the cabinet space), but they get used however. i know...goofy.

sounds like you're already on track to have healthy holidays.
i once read somewhere to consider those nibbles/bites/licks typically are about 100cals (each?). that might help you to think about how much noshing you want to do.

you are obviously a cook! i want to eat at your house!!
you are probably offline by now--but shabbat shalom. "talk" next week! :flowerforyou:

Hey everyone! I am sort of back from the dead! I have been so sick that I have pretty much slept the entire week!:noway: Still not all the way there but at least I am somewhat coherent today. I still can't breathe through my nose but I am not aching as much. I am guessing that I had either the flu or another really nasty virus....prefer the flu so that I now have some immunity. The funny thing is that my whole family is scheduled to get the seasonal flu vaccine at the pediatrician's office on Sunday.

Caden is better just coughing some.

It seems my oldest has turned a corner, he likes his job, is helping a lot at home and doing well in school! He is also seeing a girl!! That helps, he had a 2 year relationship in High School and we really liked the girl but they were just too young and he hasn't really dated since then.

Hopefully by the middle of next week I can start to do some kind of exercise! Of course I have lost 2 lbs being sick but I know that it is water weight and will come back once I am back to normal so I am not counting them. I just want to feel all the way better since this week was a total blur. Thanks to my hubby for both working from home and taking care of the kids at the same time!!

and it's so wonderful that your hubby was able to help out that way. real commitment to family.

thanks for sharing the happy news about your eldest too. good women can have that effect.

take it easy and don't rush into anything. it can take weeks to recover fully from the flu. :flowerforyou:
  • good morning all

lettuce - glad to hear you and caden are on your feet again.

amy - i hope your car is fixed. i know when i have no wheels it is like my life gets put on hold.

stacy - i am a good cook, part of the problem.

the weekend went pretty well except for exercise.

i gave up my walk on saturday and went to visit my cousin who had a baby girl. i held the newbie for hours. i LOVE LOVE LOVE newbies.

sunday- start of a new week. all my kids have colds. gotta love all the germ sharing at school.
one of them has a cough and will go to the doc this afternoon make sure it is nothing serious.

i am procratinating getting started on my sunday morning clean up. Why? cuz i don't want to clean up

same exact feeling as i look at the tomato sauce encrusted countertop and the grease covered stovetop. and the pile of stuff on the island counter that NEVER goes away!! ugh

i hope everyone has a great day--focus on your goals and end your week strong!! (that's my plan anyway) :flowerforyou:
  • i ate myself sick today. argh!!!!

i knew i wasn't going to feel well after i let myself eat all that food. where did my will power go?

at least i stuck to my no food after 7pm rule.

    back to basics tomorrow.

hope everyone had a more successful day than i did.

:drinker:  DH got the truck fixed!!!

He went to the auto store to get the part and got up early this morning to work on it. It ended up being a bad connection. It was a quick fix, and he was able to return the unused part!

At least I did discover that I can walk home from work on nice days this fall for a little extra exercise. I may do that once a week. Just have dh drop me off at the church and then walk home. It's SO much more enjoyable to walk for exercise than it is to walk because you have to.
