I have been trying to find the right protein shake for me. Every time I go into a vitamin store like GNC they always tell me what's wrong with the one that I drink. (Designer Whey) and urge me to try another one. The guy yesterday told me that Designer Whey will make me bulky.. I was like I highly doubt that. I know everyone is different but is there a right and wrong protein? I am thinking as long as I stay within my calorie limit I should be fine with any protein that I drink??

Any advice would be appreciated!

I use plant based protein shakes, mostly because whey made my stomach hurt. I got mine off of amazon.

Clearly the guy at GNC has no idea what he's talking about. First, I use Designer Whey, and I didn't bulk up. You know why? Because most women won't bulk up with lifting and protein shakes because we don't have the appropriate amounts of testosterone to do so.

Another reason that statement is stupid is because Designer Whey is a whey protein. It sounds like he was saying that particular brand would make you bulk up, which is ridiculous, because whey is whey. Sure, the quality, taste, and processing of the whey may vary from brand to brand, but it will still essentially act the same in the body regardless of the label. If he was trying to sell you protein meant for women (which I suspect he was), don't buy it because it's exactly the same, they just jack up the price and market it to women.

That being said, there are a variety of different types of protein powders (whey, casein, soy, pea, bean, etc), and they all have different uses. Some are absorbed faster or slower by the body, so you should pick the one for your needs. Bodybuilding.com has a very comprehensive explanation of the different kinds of protein powders, and I believe someone has posted the link for that already.
