Hello everyday I set out with a plan to reach my daily targets. I plan every meal and every workout. However, I seem to always be under my calorie goal (500 or more) but over my protein in-take. Does anyone have receipes that are low in protein?

  • I wouldn't actually worry about being under in protein - MFP defaults your protein settings pretty low, and protein fills you up better & longer...so keep doing what you're doing, probably!! If You like, you can go into your settings and change up your goals so ti sets you a higher protein target, that's what a lot of peple do.
The rough guide is to eat ~1g of protein for every lb of your body weight, I believe :)

How do you manage to get so much protein? I never hit my protein levels... I think I need to do a bit of research into foods/recipes that have plenty in. Good luck!
  • Healthy fats like all natural peanut and almond butters, nuts and whole grain carbs (bread, pasta, rice, quinoa) all have smaller amounts of Protein but are calorie dense. Also, tablespoon of good oils like olive, sesame and coconut are carb and protein free but have a lot of calories. Lastly, if you make protein shakes add a banana to it. ~100 calories for a medium. Those are some easy ways to add to your calorie content without making another full meal. My simple favorite a medium banana with 2 tbsp of all natural peanut butter...295 calories, 16g (0 trans), 34g carbs, 10g protein. Even better put that on 2 pieces of whole grain wheat and you're at 500 calories.

Beans, hummus, cottage cheese, meats of course (shrimp is one of my favs as it's low calorie and high protein so you can eat a ton of them) and a protein supplement such as whey protein powder are the methods I use if it helps. A lot easier mixing it up that eating 6oz of meat at every lunch and dinner!!!

Also, I took a look at your diary (hope you don' t mind) and generally speaking you have one meal a day (dinner mostly) that have any significant protein in it. If you can figure out a way to change your macros a bit by adding some of the protein foods I listed I think that would help you. Try to target a 40/40/20 Protein/Carb/Fat mix or 30/50/20 might be better for you. Add a serving of cottage cheese or even yogurt (Greek will have more protein but I personally hate the taste of it) if you don't like CC to your breakfast.

Another option could be to add a Protein Shake with the following ingredients: Serving of Whey Protein (I use EAS Vanilla), 1 Serving of Vanilla Greek Yogurt, 1c Skim or 1% Milk (use the Cow stuff as the plant stuff has little protein) and 1c Frozen Mixed Fruit. Blend that in a blender. This will give you about 400 calories, 3g fat, 55g carbs, 47g protein. Cut the Greek Yogurt and it's 300 calories, 3g fat, 36g cards, 35g Protein.

Now that might not fit into your calories for the day but could be an option.
