I feel so out of control! I have been doing really well for a few months, and suddenly this week I can't control myself at all. I have been eating about one thousand extra calories each day- I feel insatiable. I just don't understand why I seem completely unable to exercise any self discipline when, up to this point, things have been relatively easy. You'd think the hard part would be at the beginning, wouldn't you?
If anyone has experienced this or can help me figure why this is going on and how to fix it that would be so welcome and appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi erin,
I have gone through those weeks (too many, ugh!). The thing that brings me back is a refocusing.
If I feel myself starting down this path I have learned to take a good 15 - 30 minutes and find a quite place and think long and hard about all the things I want to accomplish, sometimes I visualize myself working to get there, sometimes I try to see my end results. It usually brings me back to a good point. Calm, quiet reflection can have a resounding impact. It puts the priorities in place for me and allows me to resist the urges that are presented.
the other thing I do if I feel a bout of weakness comming on is sit down and plan the next couple of days out for both food and exercise. I feel like if I have a plan, I don't need to stress over getting everything right because it's all laid out for me.
I hope one of these works for you.
Hang in there!

You're not alone! I feel like I'm having one of those weeks too! I had been so happy about reaching my first goal this week, but then I've been over on my calories every day since then!! I gave into a chocolate craving one day and it's been downhill ever since then. I've had a couple days where I wasn't able to work out and now I just feel like a blob! I haven't stepped on my scale for a couple days and I feel like it's laughing at me every time I walk past it!!
But we can do this!! We CAN get back on track. I'm thinking about trying to change up my routine a bit...try and get out of this rut I feel I'm in. I'm gonna try that tip about getting somewhere quiet to relax and refocus.
I don't think that one rough week is going to ruin our diet efforts altogether. I mean who knows...maybe our bodies needed some extra refueling and in the next few weeks we'll make huge progress!!!!
So cheer up..things will get better if you don't dwell on the negative, but just keep moving forward, knowing that we can do this.

I think it's that feeling of, "I've done so well and now I've given in to my old ways...will I permanently go back to my old ways now that I've splurged for a week?" NO, your body needed it. Just sit back for a minute and think of why you might have over eaten. Too much sugar increasing your appetiite, Stress, boredom, eating out, more exersice or maybe your metabolism just needed it. But I can hear you, I sometimes can't help but feel bad when I have a few to many splurge days, it feels like I have lost a bit of the determination and control. Sometimes it's ok just to give in as long as we know why.:flowerforyou:0

Hi MFP,
I just finished off a week and a half where I got off track. I had a cold and it zapped my strength. I tried everything: eating chicken soup, garlic, onions, and drink lots of water. The only thing that worked was time. :grumble:
I think our bodies are stressed when we are cutting calories that is why we may need a break from it every so often.
This may just have been a time that your body needed a break. Keep recording everything and when you are ready, you will get back on track.
I just got back to it yesterday and I am again enjoying that feeling of accomplishment that comes from making it through the day. The first day back is always the hardest. The second day feels like riding a bike, you know how to do this.
Blessings to you,

Thanks for all your thoughts and encouragement- I tried out some of your ideas. And guess what- on Saturday I was having lunch and all of a sudden I felt something strange - I was full! So I stopped eating. Finally, my body seems to have clicked back into normal conscientious eating mode! Thanks again all for your help!0
