I'm not expert at this but if I understand right woman can't really get bulky so I wouldn't worry about that0

I would check out the new rules of lifting for women. Cliff notes......You will not get bulky. Lift heavy and hit compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench press, bent over row, overhead press, pullups, dips).0

The only way you would build big huge muscles is if you are eatting a ton of calories to build those muscles, its also incredibly hard for women period b/c we don't have the hormones for it. You may notice you get a little bigger at first but it's water retention in your muscles from the micro-tearing caused by working out and should go away after a week or two.0

MTYH. you will NOT get bulky by lifting weights. "Bulky" muscle mass comes from the amount of food you consume. Your muscles simply wont get bigger if your not eating a specific amount per day. As long as your running the right amount of calories (somewhere between 1300-1600) depending on your goals, current height, weight, exercise regime, etc) you will NOT get bulky. You will tone and lose body fat but thats about it. Theres a lot of factors at play here so this is just a general guideline by the way.0

Thanks guys ツ like I said im new so, the thought of getting bulky was right there at the top of my thoughts. Glad it will be hard for that to happen and I dont eat a tone of calories I average between 1300 an 1500(on a big day)0

If you're going heavy, it's easy to hurt yourself if you're using poor form. Once you get started, you may want to try recording yourself to check and make sure you're doung it right. Also, once you get into the heavier ranges, you may need more/different equipment.0

You'll probably see the scale number go up at first too. Don't fear it. It means that you are building muscle. As you build, your BF will start to go down and if you can stick with it, you should start to see results in about a month. Good luck. I lift as well. message me if you have any questions.

New Rules of Lifting for Women, Stronglifts, etc. good places to start.
You won't get bulky. I'm not bulky! I do still have some fat to lose but I'm only getting smaller and smaller. The scale itself hasn't changed much.
Good luck!0 -
As so many have said before, New Rules of Lifting. Not only does it gve you excellent workouts, but it explains in detail things about why you cant get bulky, a diet/nutrition plan, and some overall good info.
I've been lifting for a bit and no one would say I look bulky or manly. Good luck!0 -

What everyone else has said...oh, and you're gonna wanna eat MORE if you're gonna be picking up heavy things.0 -

True statement above...Must women are under the impression that lifting weights is going to turn them into a bodybuilder. It will not. It takes an insane amount of discipline, determination and well obsession to get to the huge bodybuilder status.
Lifting weights is a blast I think every one should get it chance.0 -
I am doing strong lifts 5x5. Google it. It's a very simple routine.0

Excellent commentary! I agree completely except for the part in bold. She will not be building muscle eating at a calorie deficit. The number on the scale is additional stored glycogen and water for repair and energy. When the body sees the existing muscle put to new use, it adapts very quickly with the additional things those muscles will need to perform.
But again...overall excellent post!0 -
I do eat a ton of calories (2000-2400) and lift and I am not even getting bulky.0

Women do not get bulky from lifting weights. Lift as heavy as you can and check out bodybuilding.com. They have some good plans and even some for begginers to get you started.0
