I am just about to start too. When I calculate my cals using the BMR/TDEE method I get something around 1800 cals so I am going to follow the Level 1 plan. The nutrition guide looks like it is pretty easy to follow actually. I am going shopping this afternoon to get some ingredients to make some of the recipes. They look yummy! Good luck! :flowerforyou:0

Hello!
I just started p90x today along with a group of people on this site! If you are interested in joining, we've got a few people who have completed the program and are doing it for a second or third time. But we'd love to have you!

Anyway! As for me, I looked at the nutrition guide, calculated how many calories I needed to eat, BMR + Activity level + 600 or something like that. (It's in the guidebook. :x) And found that I was in the 1800-something zone of calories. So I am starting off phase one at 1800 calories. And yeah..it seems really daunting and scary to be eating that much, especially since I have really only been eating 1200 calories for a while, but I want to stick to the program as close as possible in order to see results. So many people have "eaten more" and lost weight and gained muscle! So why not try it too?
If MFP is suggesting that you eat around 1200 calories a day, I don't think that that's going to be enough to get you through the workouts, as they are really intense.0 -
Hi! I feel the same way right now except I just started Insanity on Friday. The calculations put me at 2110 and said for weight loss I needed to subtract 500. That puts me at 1610. I am eating 1400 now...and I am afraid that if I go up I will gain. But I am going to abide. Good luck to you!0

Eat enough to keep your energy levels good! I found out the hard way I was trying to eat low cal and my workouts suffered! I am also incorporating the p90x strength workouts in with my running! Good luck! I am going to make sure and eat around 2000!0

I was following the suggested diet plan and it originally didn't give me enough carbs. after 2 weeks I was miserable to be around. I adjusted a little bit and felt much better. I am 41 year old male, 5' 10" 194 lbs....it had me around 1900 calories/day. I actually gained 3 lbs over the first few weeks but then it came off.
also, I wouldn't really go by the scale...I saw much better results in the mirror and by the way my clothes fit.0 -
I tried the P90 diet for "one day", as my wife pleaded with me to reconsider... The food choices were quite obscure and not at all normal items -- hence one day's worth of food cost me $90 USD for one day... I quickly dashed this diet as too obscure and way too difficult to follow in the real world. Most if not all "prescriptive diets" will eventually slay you from either too much complication, too difficult to follow while out living in the real world or perhaps too expensive.
The 'real deal' is simply to use MFP as your no heavy lifting required guide to daily calorie consumption... If your daily amount is 1200c, you'll soon realize what is a good food choice and what isn't -- simply from the basic calorie component of any given food item... For example, go to an italian restaurant and eat a few pieces of fresh bread before your pasta dish or perhaps salad, then pasta is served and you've potentially injested close to 500 calories (bread, oil). Add to that the salad and then pasta and you can easily eat a 1200 calorie lunch or dinner without batting an eye. So therein lies the ultimate diet... I know now that if I want to eat 1200 c's in a single meal that I need to do something to prepare for and to allow for such a meal. At least if I want to lose or maintain my weight... This is a far easier diet plan than ANY OTHER.
So, for that 1200 calorie meal? I would plan to go for a long run that day (60 minutes can burn over 1000c), and or some kind of class at the gym that would provide the same kind of results. Then my trip to pasta heaven is a solid one and one that doesn't put me back 3-4 weeks on my dieting...0
