best heart rate monitor

I am on day 5 of Insanity and have no idea how to calculate my calories burned. What are your suggestions for a heart rate monitor?

Thanks
Heather

I don't have one, I might ask for one for my an upcomming holiday, but I have little $$, and someone gave me the Insanity files, and I really wanted to know how much I was burning during the Insanity workouts. So I found this formula on livestrong and it calculates how many calories you burn based on how long and how high your heart rate is. So when I was on a water break during insanity i would take my heart rate for 15 seconds 3-5 times during the workout. Then at the end i would average them together and put it into the formula and it seems pretty accurate to me!

    [(-20.4022 + (.4472 x heart rate in beats per minute) + (.1263 x weight in kilograms) + (.074 x age)] / 4.184.

Once you get the number multiply it by how many minutes you worked out! It seems complicated but it really isn't

to get your weight in kilograms divide your weight in pounds by 2.2

I have a HRM and I love it! Seriously - the instructors and other people in my workout class ask me after class how many calories I've burned. It really is worth the money spent. I have the Polar FT4. It's user friendly and really fun.

I also have the Polar FT4 and I love it. Bought it on line from Amazon, well worth the money! I was over estimating on some workouts, under on others, now, I don't workout without it

I have a Garmin Forerunner 110. I use it for running, but have used it for other types of workouts and it works great :)

Is it worn on the wrist?
