Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis...

So, apparently I'm allergic to exercise! I laughed when the doctor diagnosed me, and everyone has laughed since I've told them but in reality it is something that is affecting my every day life and could be potentially quite serious. I stopped doing any sort of cardio a few months ago because of the symptoms and severe pain (some info here: http://allergies.about.com/od/anaphylaxis/a/eia.htm ). The few articles I've read on it say that you shouldn't give up exercise and just learn what triggers you and then avoid it, but my triggers seem to be cold or sudden body temperature changes and there's little I can do about that - the weather here in the UK is always cold enough to trigger an attack and gyms are always air conditioned...

So has anyone else been diagnosed with this and has found a way to manage it? Or any personal trainers have any experience with this condition?

My G.P has given me a daily anti-histamine to take to see how I get on with those, but I'm really reluctant to start training again because it hurts so damn much! Even walking too quickly can cause my hands and feet to swell and intense pain.

A friend of mine has an allergic reaction brought on by cold. She breaks out in hives and one time while fishing with her boys, she fell into the water, had an anaphylactic reaction and they had to call an ambulance. As far as I know, she doesn't take anything for it but does try to avoid extreme cold. (hard to do when you live in northern Idaho.)

Yeah this is my problem, although the doctor was nice, she didn't really give me any alternatives to exercising when it's cold, other than to avoid it which will leave me all of about a month in the year where I can exercise. I'm not quite sure what to do, i've really enjoyed running and biking and was excited to join the sports societies at uni this autumn. But as my reactions have been getting steadily worse, I'm worried I might actually go into shock! I guess I'll see what happens after the anti-histamines, although apparently they're largely not effective!
