Does anyone have any information on trimming weeds with a string trimmer?

i would just use Mowing grass, general and if it was a really hard workout (with a heavy gas mower) just add more minutes.
  • Good idea. Thank you.

May I suggest wearing a HRM while you trim. I wear one during my trimming and mowing. I find the estimated calorie burn from MFP is over stated. My Polar F7 is pretty accurate (FT7 now). I would also use the general mowing for your category.

I found a site that suggests the following:

Weed whacking can burn as little as 200 to up to 500 calories depending on duration.

I live on an acreage, and usually spend about 1 hour doing this task.

I am going to suggest 250 calories, since I am walking carrying a 12 to 15 lb. trimmer. Might be wrong, but feels like walking about 2 miles at a quick pace.

    Yeah!

So what you want to use is a decent 2 stroke gas trimmer. It has more power than the electrics or the 4 strokes.

It's also important to ensure that you are wearing long pants and closed toed shoes. Be very careful around fences too, improper wacking can cause damage to the fence, or to the trimmer.

Don't forget that most edgers have a 2-cycle engine and require you to give it an oil/gas mixture instead of just straight gasoline. Buy one of the smaller bottles and mix it with a gallon of gas. They're pre measured and easy to use.

I'd avoid the electric trimmers. Who wants to lug around an extension cord?
