Okay, so next week, I will be going in for kidney surgery and I am very concerned about the length of recovery time. They say I'll need about a week to recover. Here's what I'm worried about, obviously I won't be able to work out and I am so scared I'm gonna gain back the weight I lost...even if I eat right? Someone please tell me that that is impossible!? Has anyone else gone through this? How did you bounce back?

After I had a c section and my husband had gall bladder surgery, we both felt like just eating enough to not be sick. After surgery you generally feel like crap. I wouldn't worry so much unless you only plan on eating chocolates and candies after your surgery.

I had surgery in February...total hysterectomy. I was worried about the same things you're worried about! I'd been working with kettlebells, so was really worried about when I'd be able to resume my workouts. It was about 4 days before I got back to "working out." Lol. I say that because when I first started getting back into it, I'd do my routines WITHOUT using any weights. So just take it easy, gradually work your way back into it. You'll know as you go. I wish you well with the surgery, and a speedy recovery. I think you'll be fine. :flowerforyou:

Hi... I am recovering from surgery right now. I can't work out for 6 weeks! I was terrified of the same thing, but just use the healthy eating habits that you already have in place and you should at least hold steady. Don't push yourself to work out until you are ready. You don't want to cause any further problems. You will do great!

A word of advice- try to avoid the scale for at least a week or so after surgery. Your body is going to retain ALOT of fluid in efforts to repair which will show a gain on the scale. As long as you stay pretty close to your calorie goal you should be fine. Good luck!

Thanks so much everybody! I did not know that about the water retention, man does that make sense, cause after my past 2 surgeries, I definitely felt bloated haha.

This leads me to another question: Do you retain water after a workout? I ALWAYS feel bloated after a workout.

Yes, because your muscles hoard water in order to repair themselves.
