Is my calorie intake correct? HELP!

I don't remember if MFP set the calories for me or not but I'm conflicted as to when/ if it should be adjusted. I'm 5'4 and 168lbs at 1400 calories a day. When I work out, the calories go up so do I still only take in the 1400 though? I'm confused. I'm at the heaviest I have ever been (gained almost 20lbs in the last 10 months) and frustrated. Some places say to eat more, some say less. I don't know what to do
I drink tons of water- I have a 24oz bottle that I carry everywhere and always refill
I work out on the ARC trainer at the gym and started kickboxing at a martial arts studio
I'm trying to eat more fruits and veggies.
Little to no eating after 8pm
I used to be able to just work out hard and cut calories and bam- weight loss. Not anymore! So sad and frustrated. HELP!

So I just adjusted my goal and it reset me to 1200 calories a day. I still don't know if I'm supposed to stick to that even after working out.0
