Exercising with Weights after Surgery?

Hi All - i'm hoping to get some wisdom/insight here. Over the last 15 months, i've lost 62 pounds i would like to start working out with weights, but am confused about what would be a good place to begin. In June 2011, i had surgery to repair two herniated discs in my neck, then in January 2012 had ulnar nerve decompression & carpal tunnel release on my right arm. Of course my Dr. has given me the all clear & i've been exercising but not doing anything with weights. Honestly i'm NOT trying to be a supermodel, but just want to tone & increase strength.
If anyone could please give me some direction, i'd be very greatful. Thanks in advance!

You may consider starting with a resistance bands vs weight themselves. And by all means, if you are going to do weights, start with someone who can help you understand form and especially as related to your previous injuries.0
