Pregnant and calories?

My bf and i are talking about trying for baby #3. i gained a LOT of weight with both of my other pregnancies, and i want to ensure that that doesn't happen again the next time.
does anyone know about how many cals a pregnant woman should be consuming? i don't want to be starving myself or the baby...but i don't want to eat whatever i want like last time.
i was wanting to wait till i reached my goal weight, but i decided i'd rather have my kids close in age. i have 40lbs to lose to get to pre-prego weight from my 1st pregnancy, and 90lbs to get to my 'ideal weight' for myself.

From what my doctors told me your only suppost to consume 300 extra calories. Eating for two is false. I took eating to a whole different level when I was pregnant with my son and gained Gestational Diabetes and 60 pounds:indifferent: ( which is why I'm here). I really wish I would have listened to the recommendation of 300 calories. Good Luck with TTC:flowerforyou:0

I had my third and last child in my 40's. She is now 4.
I had gestational diabetes with all of them, but with this last one I was determined not to gain the 70 or so pounds I did with the first two.
I ate normally, except I added two snacks between meals and tons of milk. I often ate crackers+peanut butter plus milk, or cheese toast plus milk, or a V8, or a granola bar plus milk. I had to monitor my blood sugar every 4 hours and give myself insulin shots every evening before dinner. And, I only gained 30 pounds. The baby was very healthy and the diabetes disappeared after the birth.

so if i'm eating 1,200 right now i just up it to 1,500....or do i add the 300 from a non diet calorie count? does that make sense?
i just checked how many cals i'd need to maintain my weight, and its 2,200
so would i need 1,500 or 2,500 (2,500 seems like a hell of a lot)0 -
Just add 300 to your current calorie alotment and stay active like walking.0

I had a surprise pregnancy at 38 while I was coaching/ training to run a marathon. I continued eating/ working out pretty much the same as I did before I was pregnant (stopped running at 6 months but kept up cardio on the elliptical and in classes.) I still watched what I ate and exercised 45-65 min. 5 or 6 times a week. I DID try to stick to a mostly Zone type diet to have the most energy during the pregnancy but I only consumed an extra 200-300 calories a day than what I normally do. I had a super healthy and relatively easy preganancy. The diet and exercise helped a lot

Hmmm...i would MAYBE talk to your dr about this.....I heard that it's true you only need an additional 300 calories...but that number i BELIEVE is based on the aveage womans person's diet...which would be about 1,800 calories..it doesnt include calorie deficite diets.....so....please just check with your doctor..every person is different!!!!0
