Heart Rate Monitor and Medication

Hi!
I've read on some of these forums that it might be a good idea to use a heart rate monitor to determine calories expended during exercise. I was wondering, however, if the results would still be reasonably valid if you are on medication that increases heart rate?
I'm taking 300 mg Effexor and 150 mg Wellbutrin and I know that my resting heart rate has definitely increased especially since I started taking the Wellbutrin. I suppose it might be ok if I did a correction by subtracting resting calories determined by the hrm for the same amount of time but I'm not sure if this would be the best way to figure out exercise calories or not.
Thanks!
