my rate of weight loss

I just changed my rate of weight loss to one and a half pounds per week from 2 lbs per week because a couple people on a thread i read said that they were more successful when they aimed for one to one and a half pounds per week instead of two. I have had it set for two pounds the whole time i have been doing myfitnesspal and i have not had much success. I hope this helps me and would appreciate any feedback!

Some people will say they lose more weight with lower deficits but science says it's just math, assuming your basic nutrition needs are met and you're not mis-estimating food or stressing out over deprivation. So for most of us, the higher the deficit, the faster the weight loss.0

I say try it, and see how it works for you. I agree with mcarter99. The higher deficit, the more your going to lose. I'm having the same issue, but I think my issue is that my body is wanting to retain the water weight, and I have been drinking more water recently.0

A lot depends on your age. Younger people tend to lose more weight faster. But as a general rule, I've found that lowering my expectations to about 1/2 lb per week works best. Moreover, very slow weight loss has been shown to stay off long-term whereas fast weight loss tends to return plus more yet within two years.0

It's been a week and I have been eating my calorie goal (1200) sometimes a tiny bit under also excersising and haven't shed ANY pounds. MFP said 2 lbs. per week should be shred.
I am going to start tape measuring myself at hips, thighs, and arms and see if I at least lose inches. Good luck!0 -

I am going to try it but i will jeep what you and mcarter99 said in mind.0 -
yeah i found 2 pounds a week wasn't feasible for me. it dropped my calories way lower than i liked and could live with plus it didnt leave me with enough options to properly fuel and recover from my weight training sessions which are my preferred workouts.
i figured this was something i was going to be doing for a year and i didnt like the idea of spending a year feeling like i was always on a diet and constantly starving myself.
my weight loss rate has been a bit over 1 pound a week. it doesnt sound like much but it adds up :happy:0 -

Thank you! I am in my mid thirties. I just want it to stay off. So i am gonna try it slower. Before i dropped what i have lost on mfp i was at 1350 calories per day and losing pretty steadily 1-2 lbs per week. Then mfp suggested i lower my caloric intake and put me to 1210 and i stopped losing so i am going to try it at higher calories. Btw i love your profile pic! Nice muscles!0 -

I totally agree with you. This really is a personal thing that you have to find out what works best for yourself. I gained about 7lbs after i started MFP in april 2011. Since january 2012 i have lost 31lbs which averages out to more than a pound a week for me too. So i guess i need to be patient with myself and this process. It is just frustrating to suddenly stop losing regularly 1-2 lbs per week. I think it happened when i dropped my calories to 1210. Thanks for your post! And you are right it adds up. I am a hare off that children story. Trying to be a tortoise!0
