Those Who Have Tried The South Beach Diet....

Alright... I usually am not pro low-carb, but I am for real addicted to carbs. Last night I literally, no lie, had dreams about pastries. So I would love some advice from those of you who have experience with South Beach. I have lost a lot of weight just counting calories, but I still crave bad carbs like crazy. I want to be eating cleaner. I want to lose this belly fat too! Thanks for your advice!
Also, What happens if I mess up? If I have one mess up day, will I gain the weight back?

I did that diet years ago. It works from the standpoint that if you cut out carbs completely you'll lose weight. Now this one you do add them back after 2 weeks. For me, the first phase was really hard. I don't necessarily crave sweet carbs myself, but when I eat a high protein breakfast for whatever reason, I feel nauseous all day. I've just learned this about myself so instead of completely eliminating carbs I try to eat them in the morning (complex ones like oatmeal) and then have little to no carbs for dinner.

I loved it. I tend to gravitate toward protein/plant sources first anyway. It was the most flavorful/colorful nutrition plan i've been on. However, the food preparation/recipes were very time consuming to me. If I ever hit the lotto and can hire someone to cook for me i'll go back LOL

Love this diet...reading the book was really educational I learned a lot that I never knew about eating. I was 270 a couple years ago and got down to 188 doing SB and going to the gym 2-3 days a week using the elliptical and some random weights...had a baby and after she was born gained almost all of it back...didnt pay attention to what i was eating AT ALL...ANYWAY just started phase 1 about 5 days ago..its hard but so worth it...for me i love the jumpstart to losing weight (average loss is 7-13 lb first two weeks) and ultimately when you start integrating whole wheat breads, pastas, n grains + fruits back in your diet you really appreciate them more.. i lose all my cravings for crap after the two weeks is done...def google sb phase 1 recipes for desserts n meals n stuff so its not boring and tasteless otherwise your just miserable..when the two weeks IS done my first piece of fruit tastes like pure candy...before eating fruit was 'something you should do to be healthy' and i usually had to add pnut butter to apples or a little sugar to strawberries...but after not having it for 2 weeks BOY does it taste amazing...and sandwiches..two pieces of bread seem like too much sometimes. only diet i will every try...and phase 2 is basically just eating healthy its not really like a diet in my eyes...but all in all the cravings get under control and the weight you lose in the beginning helps motivate you to keep going...when i started exercising i noticed i was gaining a little bit but i forced myself NOT to weigh myself more than 1 every 2 weeks and just stay focused on my plan...i honestly stopped weighing myself i felt so energetic and had to buy new pants...and one day i just started getting crazy compliments and weighed myself and i could NOT believe my eyes...you could have knocked me over with a feather...but its easier said than done...i have weighed myself everyday since i started this past week lol but i've lost a lb a day so it does encourage me...anyway hope some of this rambling helps!! and good luck to a better you HOWEVER you do it!!!

I don't think of South Beach as low carb, because you don't pay attention to carb counts. One day won't derail you entirely. The bigger struggle for me is not the whole grains it is the low sugar. I prefer the taste of whole grains, but I am a sugar addict.
