How To Accurately Calculate Calories Burnt When Walking

How do you log in the speed of your walking exercise? I can only find speeds for whole or half numbers (2mph, 2.5mph, 3mph etc) but my mobile phone often tracks me at differing speeds i.e. 3.8mph, 6.1mph etc
Should I round the number down and increase my minutes or round the speed up and decrease the amount of minutes I log?
I really want to get it logged properly as I walk so much and I'd like to get a fairly accurate idea of how much I'm burning.
Thanks in advance for any help/tips.

Your phone app should have an average speed. Use that. If for some reason it doesn't, then 1. Get a better app, 2. Take the distance and divide it by time to figure your average (or the reverse of that; I'm terrible at math), or 3.get a better app.
I've got several apps for this, but my favorite is still the standard Google Tracks. Gives a total time and average speed, and also gives a separate *moving* time and average speed, subtracting out time at lights, standing still and talking on the phone, or doing chinups or whatever at the stations along the trail.0 -

Oh to have an app like that, I'd love it! Unfortunately my mobile phone isn't advanced enough for extra apps. :frown:
My phone will tell me the average speed, highest speed, distance and time but it doesn't tell me calories burnt. I look on the list of activities in the 'Exercise' section on here and usually use those values but like I say, I never know whether to round up or round down.
I've trawled through the internet but can't find any values for more 'odd' mph numbers.0
