Is there such thing as too much water?

I just wondered if anyone knows if it's bad to drink TOO much water. I drink 12-17 eight ounce glasses a day. I just got in the habit of drinking it and I really like it. I feel good and everything. I'm just thirsty, especially when I exercise. It's so cold and refreshing. I'd be interested in any feedback. I know many things in excess are bad. Am I over the line? Is it okay?

Yes, you can drink too much water. But we're talking about a LOT of water, liters of it in less than an hour. It is called water intoxication or water poisoning. People have actually died from it before. But, I don't believe you are really in danger with how much you drink. I drink about the same.
This is from Wikipedia about water intoxication:
Water intoxication can be prevented if a person's intake of water does not grossly exceed his or her losses. Healthy kidneys are able to excrete approximately 1 liter of fluid per hour.0 -
I have heard of a girl that drowned by drinking too much water :noway: It was a radio station challenge or something. However, the more water you drink the more your body can flush your system, so bring on the glugaluggin :laugh:0

I am a high consumption water person as well. But I think I max out at 12 a day on occasion. I would suggest visiting your doctor as being thirsty all the time can signal other problems such as diabetes.0

This is very true! I assume that my constant thirst is due to the diuretic that I take. But, my doctor does keep a close eye on my blood sugar since my dad is diabetic.0
