Pedometer VS Heart Rate Monitor

I have been "searching" for something that will work for me but not put a huge dent in my bank account, LOL! I met a guy in Kmart today that has been wearing the same Omron Pedometer(w/software to upload data to his computer)and he says it works great. On the other hand, I see people goin nuts for these Polar HRM's. Could I have some feedback from those that are using pedometers that have cool extras, as well as opinions on which is more accurate?
