WeightLoss from Running: Before and Afters

My friend and I are going to start training for the PF Chang's Rock n' Roll Marathon in January. We will be doing the half marathon.

I would love to see/hear some success stories of those who have lost a significant amount of weight due to running. I have to jog right now and it takes me about 13-14 minutes to jog a mile and need to lose about 60 pounds to be at a healthy weight.

Thanks!

I started running 4 months ago. I've lost about 16 lbs in that time I thing, but the big difference has been in body composition! Boobs are smaller (a huge victory for me!), my double chin is greatly reduced, my stomach is a lot smaller, and the flab on my arms and thighs too. HUGE improvements from the running. I'm training for a 10K now but the first race isn't until November. It takes me a while to build up.

I'll find my old photo posts and post the links.

Make it moobs instead of boobs, and I can say the same thing. I've been running for about 3 months now. My training runs are 2-3x a week and in the 4.5-6.5 mile range, non-stop. I could not run a mile straight when I started running again. I do walk a lot with my dog, which helped tremendously, but running is different. I did walk / run intervals at first to get my knees feeling good with running. Walk a mile, jog a quarter or a half mile, walk another mile home (there is a school with a cinder running track a mile from my house that I walked to for my first runs). Everyday you run, go a little further. Doesn't matter if it's only an extra 10 feet of running, it's further. Be smart and don't completely overdue it, but keep pushing yourself. Once you figure out how to get your mind off what your body is doing and settle into a pace, the mileage will come. You might want to look into the C25K training program if you haven't already, just to start building up endurance.

Since starting running, stuff that was still jiggling doesn't so much anymore. I've definitely gotten thinner. My resting heart rate is lower. I'm getting good power back in my legs. It's great.

That is wonderful! And thank you for the tip on going just a little bit further... :)

My profile pic shows just that - the first two was where I started running, third one after losing about 30lbs (mostly running) and last one 8lbs heavier (and a size smaller) combining running and heavy lifting....

    Bump!

I have a couple of pics in my pro. The black dress was about a month and half ago at 158ish and the red dress was not this past Saturday but the one before at 152ish? I've lost a majority of my weight thru running and have only been running since March, about 2x-3x a week more or less. And there were wks that I took off due to injury etc.

I started running about a year and a half ago and started racing last May.. I think I was around 170ish, and saw about a 20 pound drop from mostly that. My favorite change is that my calves look great. I can see the muscle tone there when I have heels on, and in some of my race pics. It feels great to see something that didn't used to be there, plus to have that sense of accomplishment when you cross the finish line. I started out barely making a quarter mile, and since then I've done 4 half marathons, and am about to begin training for my first full one this Nov! You def get out of it what you put in. Good luck!

I started running shortly after I had lost the first 20 pounds and quit smoking. Running keeps me fit, I'm proud to have come that far, my legs look much better than before and my overall health has improved enormously.
But running without any other exercise does not give the desired results very quickly. Also: you run faster and stronger with a stronger core. That's why I ALWAYS do strength training in between the runs; it also helps tone my upper body and the back of my arms. Wouldn't do it any different.
