Fitting On An Airplane....

Sorry this is long, but I need your advice! First let me plead with all of you to not call me ridiculous and crazy for worrying about this issue. My family and friends say I am nuts, but I am literally crippled by the anxiety that I may not fit on a plane/in the seat belt. I am flying to Seattle for a friends wedding next Friday and I am very nervous. I would be absolutly humiliated and I really don't want my husband to witness this! Three years ago I flew on Southwest. I was about 30lb bigger than now. I sat down as usual and the belt wouldn't fit! It had never happened before! I switched to another seat and the belt fit just fine. The belts fit fine on all of my return flights too... but this was enough to freak me out for life! I was around a size 18-20 then ;(.... I am a 12-14 now... but still terrified I won't fit on a plane. What size were you when you had no problem with planes? I have major body dismorphia and see myself as larger than ever before, though I logically know I am much smaller. When I told a friend about my fear she laughed and said "you aren't fat"! I would love to see that for myself! Someone please help ease my fears! Btw, I am flying Frontier this time and I actually ordered a seat belt extender to diminish my humiliation. I just pray I don't have to use it! Help!

You're not ridiculous or crazy! But, let me say without any hesitation, unquestionably, you are going to fit in the seat!!!!! Size 12-14 is perfectly normal, and you won't have any problems or need a seat belt extension. It sounds like you just got a mismanufactured seat belt on the last flight, because even at size 18-20 you shouldn't have had any problems. It's all going to be okay! :)

I flew Frontier 2 years ago and was...and I still am a size 18. The seat belt fit me but I felt as though it barely clicked together so I completely understand how you feel. Plane seats, rides on rollercoasters, sporting events, concerts, etc. Since you are several sizes smaller now, you should be fine. I bet this time around you will def. notice a difference once you buckle yourself in. Have a safe trip!

    Thank you arathena :)
Mrs. JBC I hope it isn't too tight! I carry all of my weight in my lower tummy/hip area! My upper body is a size 10 and my lower is so much larger! No ideal for planes, hah.

you will be fine,I take it you are not in Ireland obviously! We have a crowd here   called Ryan Air and you would want to be a size 0 to be comfortable on their planes no leg room totally cramped! And they actually charge to use the toilet! So I think you will be fine!

At a size 12/14 you will most definately fin in the sit... I am bigger than you... I have been bouncing between a size 20 and 24 for a few years now and I've always been able to fit between the armrests and in the seatbelt... sometimes it has been a tighter squeeze than others, but I've always gotten it done and stayed in 'my alloted space"... from the research I've done, the smallest seat width on commercial flights in America is 17inches from armrest to armrest... If you are really worried about, measure out 17 inches...sit in it, and make sure you fit.

At a size 16-18 I still was able to fit just fine in airplane seats. You will be fine. Enjoy your trip!

If I can fit and not need a belt extension, you can easily fit.

You will fit. I had the same anxiety when I flew to Toronto last October at size 20, and I fit! Thank god!

i know that this is an old topic, but i just have to say that you are not the only one..

i worry about this every flight and have sleepness nights, it ruins the build up to my holiday every year - even though i have always fitted and never needed an extender ( i am a UK 20-22)

I hope that you enjoyed your flight x
