Can someone explain this to me?

I've been somewhat stalled for the past 2 wks with weight loss. I *know* why (eating a little more than I should and not working out as much or as hard as I was). Yesterday, I indulged in a little cheesecake AND some strawberry shortcake (4th of July bbq) and today showed a loss a 1.4 lbs! Holy smokes! Why on earth would that result in a loss? I'm curious just about the chemistry behind losing weight... I will pretty much weigh the same all week (I weigh in everyday at the same time) , then it's like over night my body decides it's okay to drop a lb. This has been a pattern... anyone know why I lose it 'overnight' instead of the .2 you would think would occur daily?

I was going to say that we usually weigh less in the morning, but you said that you weigh yourself the same time everyday. Maybe you were a litle more dehydrated than usual? I dunno, just guessing. But YAY to the 1.4 lb weight loss!0

It's Water.
My weight can fluctuate up to 2-3 KILOS between when I wake up and when I go to bed.
This is where constantly weighing yourself actually becomes a hindrance rather than a help0 -
Not sure...maybe you are not getting enough calories to meet your body's needs on a daily basis. What is your daily caloric limit?0

My only advice, stop weiginging everyday and recording it. If ur gonna weight urself daily fine, but pick one day, one time, same outfit and stick to once a week. Seriously I'll lose 4 pounds over night, then eat a steak, a veggie or watever else I'll eat and be up 3-4 pounds. Or maybe ur trip to the ' bathroom' had something to do with it. Or u drank more water and flushed the sodium out. The almost 2 pounds u lost I guarantee is was either water weight or bodily waste.0

You only went over 100 calories yesterday, so I think if you have a habit of eating well and exercise, one indiscretion won't be bad.
However I see you also went over last weekend...so I don't know.0 -
I would think it's probably water. I fluctuate up to 3 pounds a day, I'd say. And sometimes, it takes awhile for food to catch up with you. So your overindulgence yesterday may catch up with the scale tomorrow or in a couple days. I would try to weigh yourself weekly rather than daily. Though, I'm a daily girl myself, you can't really know that that weight you "lost" is, well, weight you "lost" until you've maintained it for awhile.0

I like this theory. Which is basically that it's water.
