Disheartened

I am 5'7" and between 132-134lbs, I love food and I exercise fairly regularly. However I cannot seem to keep the weight off! My goal is 122-125lbs but whenever I lose weight, it comes back within the week. I realize that I need to eat about 1,200 calories a day in order to keep from going into starvation mode-- and yes I do eat my exercise calories back, otherwise I get cranky. So why oh why can I not lose any poundage and actually keep it off?

It's a lot harder to lose when you don't have much left. Your body may like the weight you are and therefore won't lose much more.
What is your weight loss goal set to? When you don't have much more to lose it's best to eat at a deficit for 0.5lb per week losses.0 -
Do you log everything?0

You're closer to underweight than over. You may not be able to do '1200 + add back'.0

It sounds to me (based on the measurements you gave) that your body doesn't want to starve! =P At 125 I would be way malnourished at 5'6'' but that's is also because of my body type. You may be a slender build naturally, but honestly 134 sounds like the perfect weight for your height, if not too little.0

Honestly, your body probably doesn't want to give it up! =p What kind of exercise do you do? Try toning and stuff instead of trying to lose weight..0

Are you strength training ie. heavy weights (not 5 lbs. dumbells)? Weights always help me!0

At 5'7 you have possibly reached your healthy limit at 130, unless you have a small frame. The body tries to keep itself from being underweight0

try taking your measurements, you could be losing fat but toning up. don't get hung up on a number, you can torture yourself to starvation that way!0

I am the same height as you. You are getting closer to the lower end of the spectrum for weight at that height. My ultimate goal would be 125, so I am not going to dare tell you that you are aiming too low. However, when you say that the weight comes back do you change your lifestyle back to the way it was? What changes that you gain the weight back. I would suspect you eat significantly more calories. Aim for a sustainable lifestyle change.
I personally feel as if 1200 calories is too low for a person of our height. As someone else said maybe try for the 1/2 pound deficit and see if you notice any changes.
Good luck!0 -
I log nearly everything, save for a chunk of watermelon here or a sip of unsweetened there... things that I don't really see the point of remembering...0

How did you come to that goal weight? 122 is on the lower end of healthy weight for your height. If I were you, I'd suggest focusing more on non-weight measurements. Look at your mirror, clothing fits, or body fat percentage. Try doing some weight-bearing exercises to increase your weight. If you like running, try increasing your endurance or speed. There's absolutely no reason to let a single number have such control over your mood, especially when you are within a healthy weight range.

Don't be disheartened. You look fabulous. It sounds like you are pretty fit and healthy, I would focus on maintaining that.0

Your goal puts your BMI under 20. You may not get there without seriously restricted eating. You would be underweight at that weight. A BMI of 20 (the lowest acceptable healthy weight for 5'7") is 128 lbs.0

Your picture looks very slender and healthy and it looks like you're eating all the right things. I agree with everyone else that I think your body is telling you that you are already the perfect weight.0
