Is it good to 'drink' your veggies????

There are certain veggies I like, like carrots or squash, but I'm not particularly keen on greens other than salad, green beans, cucumbers, or asparagus. I know I don't eat as many as I should. We have a juicer and I occasionally juice them with an apple because it's easier to get them down. When I saw something called "Greens to Go" in Costco, I bought it because it looked even better and I could take it with me to work. I know you don't get the fiber this way, but other than that is it beneficial at all to 'drink' your veggies or am I just wasting my time and money?????

My daughter's pediatrician sat her down for "the nutrition talk" now that she's 13 and recommended that she try some of the veggie juices on the market now as an alternative to eating them. Seems like a pretty good endorsement to me!
  • It would be a great source of vitamins, mineral and phytonutrients. But without the fibre, they may digest rather quickly and if they're high in sugar, like carrots or beets, you might crash. You could pair it with your meals along with some good fat and protein to slow down digestion or add psyllium husk for fibre

It's probably better than not having any veggies at all - but you would probably get better long term outcomes by experimenting with a range of different veggies and cooking styles to find things that you like. This way you get all the nutrients and fibre, and you control how much sugar, salt etc is added.

That is interesting! I need something like this. Because I am such a picky eater (oddly enough, food doesn't excite me too much because I don't like most of it despite my need to lose so much weight. My vice being... all the high calorie starbucks drinks and potatoes and cheese).

So in addition to trying to lose weight, I'm trying to get a more balanced and healthy diet. It's hard going, but heck yeah, I can eat a salad now (it may seem small, but for me, this is a huge accomplishment)!! Well with fruit on it instead of like tomatoes and stuff. So I still need a way to get a good measure of vegetables. I'd like to stop taking the giant horse pill of a multi-vitamin...
