Standard Spots for Measurements

Hi All ~ I'm starting to have some good success with weight loss and am back to weight training as of this week. I'd like to keep good records of my measurement changes as I know there will likely be bigger changes there vs. the scale at some times. Often in 'success stories' people will say something like, "I lost 25 inches"" - but inches from where? How many measurements did you take to get that total?

I would think that somewhere in the fitness and weight loss world there would be a standardized chart of what points should be measured and used for this calculation. I've searched high and low on the internet and can't find anything. Does anyone have a link to a chart (preferrably with some sort of research study or other 'official' connection) for guidance?

Thanks in advance for any help, and best of luck to you all :flowerforyou:

If you mean measurements with calipers to calculate Body Fat % then this site will help:

    http://www.linear-software.com/online.html

If you mean using a tape measure to record your progress in cms or inches then I don;t think there are any recommended standard places.

    But I would suggest (women)

    Bust (nipple line)
    waist (belly button)
    Hips (widest point)

    men

    Neck
    Chest (nipple line)
    waist (belly button)

(I also record bicep at the widest point fully flexed; for this measurement I'm looking to see that my diet is not causing significant muscle loss).

    Best wishes.
