which Protein powder?

I can't determine what protein powder is the best. Yes I know there are lots of posts about this already. I started p90x this week which is very intense. According to the assessment it says I need 9 servings of protein which is 100 calories a serving.

For example, if I eat a special K snack bar which is only 110 calories, with 4 g of protein, that is considered only 1 serving of protein?

How do you determine which protein powder is best?

I have heard amazing things about Shakeology (a Beachbody product). I personally use "Now Sports" 100% Whey protein isolate for breakfast. I like it because there are no additives; no flavoring, no artificial sweeteners, no added supplements. I can make it taste like whatever I want and it's chock full of protein.

I purchase it online through amazon-dot-com as they have the best price compared to stores in my area.

This is just my personal preference after trying so many protein powders. I DO want to give Shakeology a try as well.

Keep up the great work with p90x - it's a fantastic workout!

I use Pure Protein whey protein powder. I have it in vanilla and chocolate. I prefer proteins that are 15 grams and up per scoop.

Ditch these. Basically junk food in a pretty wrapper.

Get a basic whey protein, don't believe the hype from the premium and "diet" whey protein products.

On Nutrition Gold Standard whey is the best in the market IMO.

Better to try to get your protein from natural sources. Here's a nice table: http://heartspring.net/list_of_high_protein_foods.html

For protein powder, I like whey - and as for brand, whichever is on sale. But watch out for the carb content, some of those powders are loaded with carbs.

ON is very good :) i either use that or, more recently switched to Dymatize 100....less calories and carbs, but more expensive
  • Another option is hemp protein powder. I deal with sinus issues and menopause (yeah, I said it ) so milk whey and soy powders aren't a good choice for me. Am also playing the Game On! diet (go Team Awesome!) and found that hemp protein powder is a perfect fit. I use Bob's Red Mill brand and add (frozen) fruit and ground flax or chia seeds to the mini beverage blender - makes for an awesome shake. I also add organic cocoa powder at times to help feed the chocolate addiction.

I like ultimate flurry. You can purchase it as a shake and also get the powder. Tastes just like a milk shake. 220 cal for 40g protein. But remember, your body can only metabolize about 20 grams of protein in a 3 hour period. What I do is add a bit to my morning coffee (instead of cream) and then a take a few sips as part of my snacks and my meals, too, if there is not a lot of protein in the meal. I checked all the bars, shakes and protein mixes at Wegman's and this one had the best protein to calorie ratio. It comes in cookie lovers (my favorite) and cholocolate. The nutrition info is on myfitness pal.

    i second this.

Also my brand of choice. Buy online and it's no more $$ than most. But it mixes and tastes much better than almost all the rest.

I just started taking protein and I'm using Jillian Michael's brand protein powder. I was thinking of going to Designer Whey brand next, but yous convinced me to try ON Gold Standard. Amazon.com has it for pretty cheap too :)
