Constantly going over sugar recommendation

I'm not able to keep my sugar intake under the 29 grams MFP recommends. I love eating fruits and veggies as snacks, or to have a cup of light milk, but I constantly go over those 29 grams of sugar because of those choices. Yesterday I went over it by 9 grams, but the day before I went over by 62! Friday by 30, Thursday by 43, etc.
I try to choose sugar-free or low-sugar options when I can, but limiting my sugar to 29 grams cuts out foods I would consider pretty healthy like most fruits, some veggies, and light milk.

Should I not worry so much about eating natural sugars and focus more on not eating processed sugars? That's what I'm doing now because it seems rather impossible to eat enough fruits & veggies without going over 29 grams of sugar. :indifferent: I just can't fathom an appropriate amount (2-3 servings/day = 300g) of fruit being unhealthy. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I had the same problem then I switched to almond milk which is delicous. Then when it comes to fruit I looked up fruits low in sugar like melons and berries and eat those more than others like mango or pinapple. Every now and then treat yourself to other favorites but in the begining try to stear away from going over so much plus the less sugar you have the less you will crave it in the future.

Me personally I count different sugars in different categories.....as long as u eat 3-5 fruits those are the sugars I wouldnt count but 6+fruits those are the grams of sugar I count......I think milk is the same way ....to me those are good sugars....but sugars in cereal and soda, candy ect those are the sugars I count.....An apple has 18grams of sugar roughly so if u eat ur 3 fruits and choose apples ure going to go over 29grams.....I really think theyre talking about manmade sugars :flowerforyou:

Do not count the natural sugar from fruits, veggies or milk! The only sugar you should worry about is from added sugars like table sugar, corn syrup, sugar in processed foods and such. Otherwise you would be cutting out a ton of food that is good for you.

  • Most people only need one serving of fruit per day without missing out on any health benefits. Keep that in mind as you calculate your daily sugar intake.

You don't need to worry too much about natural sugars in fruit (if you consume the whole fruit, and not just juice) and milk.
