What do you do for fun?
I am struggling with the whole work / life balance idea at the moment. It seems that I spend my life working, sleeping, eating and watching some TV. I do like to read and I spend some time on my elliptical and WaterRower but that is basically it.
That all sounds so boring and not the picture of a fun life well lived. I was just wondering what the rest of you do when you are not working/eating/sleeping.

Why would you want to base what you find fulfilling in your life on what others find fulfilling?
That said, I try to live a balanced life with pursuits in music, sports, arts, politics, culture. Anything creative and self-improving appeals to me, and in some cases, intellectual contraction is as appealing as expansion.
A suggestion to you would be to live a social and active life. Make it a goal to never turn down an invitation no matter what is on television or how tired you are or how blasé the event sounds to you. Fulfillment is based upon improving yourself and sharing that improvement with the world around you.

I think that sounds like a good life to me! what do you want, to shake it up with some cancer? limbs removed? foreclosure stress?

Right now I'm on summer break. I usually take summer classes but a lot of stuff happened this past year so I needed to take an actual break!
I like to crochet, read, play video games, play my ukulele, and mess around online. I only watch TV when it gets too hot in my room and I need to sit below a fan.
I applied to volunteer at the local crisis center but they haven't gotten back to me yet and I don't have much time before I'm back at college.0 -
I take my parent's boat out a lot. So relaxing.0

I'm way overcommitted but:
1) soccer (play and watch - I play pickup once a week or two and watch English games at like 7 AM at the bar lol)
2) chorus - I'm in the San Francisco chorus, it's a lot of work
3) Italian lessons. Fun class!
4) yoga 2-3 times a week
5) lululemon run club - we sometimes socialize afterwards
6) go to baseball games
7) trivia nights if I have time
8) hiking and camping
I joined Team in Training last year - another big commitment. Raising money for cancer research and training for a half marathon. Plus lots of social and fundraising events with your teammates!
I have no free time. I would suggest that you don't do as much as I do.0 -

Not to sound cliche but my work is what I do for fun. I'm an artist and I also make jewelry out of candy (which was a great way to curb my sweet tooth, I look at candy like others look at beads or other craft stuff) and while it makes me money I still like doing it just because.
I also enjoy reading, browsing antique/junk/second hand shops, going to museums, traveling down to New Orleans when I have the gas money and going to the River Walk or shops I know there, going to the theatre, singing, playing my alto sax, writing short stories, and doing stuff with my mother. I used to do figure drawing classes but the instructor turned out to be one of those hippie wannabe bohemian artist idiots who think La Boheme sums up how their life should be lived, well that and she started taking credit for my talent when I can draw circles around her, figuratively.0 -
I just try to stay active (without logging). I get my relationship time playing tennis, swimming, climbing rocks, bowling, putt-putt, laser tag, rafting through the James River, you know, that sort of stuff. But I do watch Netflix for some time with the family too, and play video games (occasionally). I just *try* to encourage my husband, best friend, and kids, to get outside with me. I don't always log those activities, but they are free (or low cost) and a lot of fun!0

I do simple things, walks, hanging out with family. I like my job well enough.
But, I think the thing is, sometimes I want to have something big to look forward to even though I enjoy the little things. So, I've been thinking about planning a trip. I have to renew my passport, so I might just do that this summer and start planning a trip for next year sometime.
In the meantime, I have to get in summer mode. I live near beaches but haven't been lately.
The question for the OP is, what dreams do you have? Have you thought about trying to fulfill one of them, or move toward one?0 -
i'm a gamer, so i like to sit on my *kitten* infront of my computer. I also have a poodle who is kind of my hobby. I draw, play guitar and listen to a lot of music.0

If it involves a bicycle, I'm down.
I shall add that since I cut out TV from my life (aside from MLB), you won't believe the amount of free time you will have.0 -
coast down a big hill on my bicycle with my feet up on the handle bars and let the wind blow in my hair and giggle the whole way down...just like when I was 10  it's awesome!0

I watch anime ;x. And if I'm not watching anime, I'm probably screwing around in Adobe photoshop, watching anime/Vocaloid/Asian-pop stuffs on youtube, or playing video games ><.0

I am sort of like this too, but I've never crossed the pond :frown: I try to plan a weekend trip every three-four months. Something really small. In August I am taking the two hour drive to see Thomas Jefferson's house, and then going to my roommate's mom's house until that Monday following. At the end of May I spent the weekend at the beach (about two hours away). If you aren't opposed to seedy hotels (byol- bring your own linen) than you can make this trip a lot more affordable and spend less in a room than you would in gas. I took 5 people to the beach on $200 for the weekend by bringing my own food in a cooler (less fast food/restaurant costs), staying in a crappy hotel (it costs us $45 a night, just a couple miles from the beach), and walking the boardwalk on the beach side, away from the stores!! :laugh:0 -
Well when I am not working (50-60 hours a week) I enjoy riding my Harley Davidson Softtail, or if it hits me I will pick up my metal detector and hit a park or beach. I work away from home, so I have to keep myself busy while I am away or I will go stir crazy.0

I ride the backroads of east Texas on my Harley Uitra Limited (my mental health break). Love long trips and just got back 2 weeks ago from a 10 day ride from Houston to the Rockies in Colorado, then over to the Ozark mountains in Arkansas and back home.0

I usually read or write. I used to spend most of my time locked in my room on the computer, but recently I picked up painting and sketching (even if i'm not that great, I still enjoy it.)
I also started to go out and experience a lot of different things in the spirit of summer.
I think you should just find something you enjoy doing by trying out a variety of things. Pick up a simple hobby, or go sky-diving. Whatever you find yourself wanting to do really.0
