pulled muscles..need alternative exercising

I occasionally pull muscles in my back/neck. I try to stretch and avoid it-but it doesn't always work. I woke up this morning with a bad sore neck/back. Even with a couple Aleve, I'm unable to twist my head, bend over, ect...without pain.

I hate when these things happen and mess up my workout routine (that being, work out every day). What can I do that will burn some calories but not mess with my neck which needs time to heal?
What do other people do when they become injured and unable to continue their usual routine for a while?

and BTW...it's 105 today, so I'm not looking for an outdoor activity.
