Walk:Run type workout with Garmin 305

I have a Garmin 305 and am training to do a marathon. I plan on running it using a Galloway type method of a 3:1 run:walk ratio. However, if I set this up in my Garmin 305 it show my workout in laps of 3 min. and 1 min. not miles. Does anyone know how I can see my mile splits but still setup a 3:1 workout? If this can't be done is there some sort of small timer that I can wear that I can setup a 3:1 run:walk?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Gymboss sells a small timer that you can set up for intervals.(Available on the Galloway website) I am doing the 3:1 Galloway training for a marathon in Feb. I just bought the Garmin 310xt and I am still learning how to use it. If I download my workout to the garmin connect website it shows the maps and you can look at the splits as well.

This is a link to the run we took Saturday morning on the right are 3 buttons details, splits and play. Hope this helps. I think you can review your history on your watch but not sure how. Good luck with your marathon training.0
