Addicted To Sugar?

Ok so I joined myfitnesspal a few weeks ago and I'm finding it really great - really making me more aware. However it has made one thing unavoidable to me - I go over my sugar intake every single day. Sometimes only by a little but most the time a fair bit. I often feel tired and if I take in less sugar I feel very run down that day. Even things I thought were healthy are loaded in it. Ontop of this I know I don't help myself - I drink the odd can of coke which is the worst thing that you can do for sugar probably - but its that last vice I'm having trouble ditching.

What I wanted to ask is; how unhealthy is it going over your sugar this often? is it normal? and are there any alternatives to coke (please not diet coke though, I'v always hated it) that I could try? I could just cut it out completely but I want to have something that will last here so don't want to feel like I'm missing out.

Thanks

If its refined sugar...like in Coke..its not a particularly good thing. If its a sugar like found in fruits, thats fine. I normally go over my sugar a bit too. But I keep my carbs low. YMMV. :)

Unless you have diabetes, sugar will not have any effect on weight loss or overall health, unless the sugary foods prevent you from getting proper nutrition. If you take care of all of your micronutrient and macronutrient needs, and stick to your calorie goals, you can eat as much sugar as you want. It's a great, quick energy source, especially for high intensity exercise.

It's really a personal choice. I used diet and exercise to get to my goal weight but got stuck without progress for a very long time because I loved sugar. I didn't eat it obsessively, but I did have a Coke on the weekends and on my "cheat days" I'd have a bag of caramels or mini Twix. Sometimes a cupcake or slice of cheesecake on the weekend. Loved my desserts. :)

Anyways, got serious about wanting to see results from all that exercise I was putting in, so I cut out refined sugar entirely. ONLY after that did I get defined abs. So if your goal is just to lose excess weight and be healthy, then the odd Coke here and there isn't going to derail you. But if you ever want to get seriously fit, then it really should go.

sugar is sugar, no matter where it comes from.

(and, barring diabetes, it doesn't really matter. sugar and sodium are safe to ignore when it comes to tracking, assuming no medical condition.)

Oh right! thats a relief, I thought it was a big deal going over sugar. I'll still try to cut down the coke though. Thanks for the advice :)

Cutting back on regular soda is never a bad idea, just know that you don't have to completely eliminate it if you don't want to.
