I manually set mine from 1200+ to 1400.
    I was too hungry before.
There is no deadline as to WHEN I need to reach my goal, so slower is fine.
I will get to my goal weight in my own time, by my own terms.
I think 1400 is a great caloric intake.

Im having the opposite problem. . . I hit about 1000-1100 and i have a hard time eating all my calories. I eat alot of fruit and i think it just fills me up to the point where i cant eat anymore. I dont know if its fruit and what i eat or if its all the water i drink. I go to bed full and i dont wake up hungry so i dont know. . All last week i had a problem with this. This week i am MAKING myself hit the 1200 calorie mark even if i have to just eat a piece of toast. If anyone else has some tips on hitting that 1200 calories im open to all suggestions!
  • I have the opposite problem. I have problems trying to even get 1200 calories a day. I am allergic to yeast and am on a mold elimination diet which means no salad dressings, no cheese, nothing with vinegar, no mushrooms, no meat longer than 24 hours old....so basically fresh fruits and veggies and freshly cooked organic meats. I am satisfied because I have to eat a ton of veggies and have a hard time eating anything else beings how I am so full. I usually hit anywhere from 950 - 1050 calories a day but this is on top of exercise for at least 3 - 6 miles of walking at 3 - 4mph daily. So try eating more veggies and it really does make you full longer.

Any suggestions for me I am open to. You are doing great with your weight loss and 50lbs is something to be very proud of. Keep up the work sounds like what you are doing is working and sometimes people need to eat more to get through some plateaus to fool the body.

I hear you Shanta! When I first started with MFP I set mine to lose 2 pounds too, but found out REAL QUICK that my numbers weren't high enough, and I was soooo hungry! So I changed it to one pound, and also started exercising to up my numbers even more! I've gotta have food, or I'm one grumpy, depressed person to be around!
You've done a fantastic job with your weight loss, don't let anyone take that away from you! :drinker:
  • Shanta girl! There is such a thing as eating too little. When you get closer to your goal weight your body has less fat at hand to use for fuel so it will use what is easier to break down which is protien ie. muscle. I have read that when you do get closer to your weight, like you have it can be really helpful to up teh caloric intake 100-300 calories. You will only have more energy to burn working out :)

Congrats on the 50 pounds! :drinker: :drinker:

I am the same way. I think 1200 is not enough for me. But I am trying to stick to it. On weight watchers they had me down to 900 calories a day plus any of the weekly allowance points that I wanted to use. That was extremly hard for me. I have tried eating more fruits and veggies but they still don't fill me up and they don't last any longer for me then any other food.

Some dayz 1200 is not enough for me either! :noway: :grumble:

Depending on workout calories, I may have 1800 or more
available BUTT no way will I eat THAT much!

And some dayz 1200 is too much (not as often!)

I think it is OK sometimes to not be super strict on tracking all numbers.
Go with how your body feels and how clothes are fitting.

LIFE & Work & STUFF gets in the way sometimes ..................
So we gotta stay on track, just travel a different route once in a while!

Best to you beautiful Shanta! :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:
  • I only make it past 1000 calories if I'm binging. Are we supposed to be hitting out goal calories or just staying under it?

going under 1200 calories per day is not healthy. especially if you excercise as well. there are some 'newbie' threads at the top of the 'general diet and weight loss' area. you should read them and work on eating at least what MFP tells you to.

    SHANTA,

i was at like 1240 cals and upped it to 1440 or something like that. works for me!! :drinker:

    Exactly thats what I thought
  • I'm with you, Dorkzcomic. I eat around 800 every day unless I'm working out that day. My doctor told me that is fine. I've been doing this since April, and it's working for me. There seems to be some "magical" property to the 1,200 calorie requirement. MFP will not set your weight loss goal at less then 1,200 a day, but I don't believe there is actually any medical reason for that. Though other posters will scream "starvation mode."
As for the OP, if you've been losing weight eating more than 1,200, keep up the good work!

I dont know what doctor you are going to but eating less than 1200 calories is not healthy especially if you under 4'11 tall..but hey if you like it I love it

Shanta you are doing awesome girl.

I have that problem too, some days 1200 is enough (I don't think I EVER have the problem of too much, but enough) other days it's no where close to what I need or maybe what I want.

Like others have said you do for you what works for you. It's all about how you're feeling and your body is smart enough to tell you what it needs. If you can actually distinguish between true hunger and head hunger. I have that problem!

    Keep up the good work!

be careful! sounds like your body is in starvation mode if your not hungry when you should be! you should def feel hungry first thing in the morning. i believe that you'll notice your hunger returning when you reach the right amount of calories. try eating smaller portioned meals every 2 to 3 hours.

As long as you are full and satisfied, you don't have to hit a certain number - just go with how you and your body feels!!!

I have found in my journey that as long as I am eating when I am hungry and stopping when I am full (not stuffed) that the body won't go into starvation mode, because you are feeding it.

I am a firm believer that starvation mode only comes into play when you are trying not to feed your body.

  • good for you listening to your body. just wait 'til you're in my shoes and 1600 isn't enough :) I think you hit it on the head when you said you were setting yourself up to fail trying to stick to 2lb per week all the way to your goal. Even if you made it, I think you'd end up putting weight back on down the road. Slow and steady, IMO, is the best way to go, and always listen to your body.

  • I have been having this problem too. Last week I hardly hit 1100 calories and I had burned about 600 calories each day, so I got some of those skinny cow ice cream sandwiches and bars (they only have 100 calories or less) and if I need to get up to 1200 I will have one of those, it is like a reward as well.

I am with you Shanta!!! I tried 1200 calories and I was really tired and hungry all the time. My mind was wandering at work, it was impossible to concentrate. I was eating more and starting to not log it because I felt guilty... that's nuts! I'm going to follow your lead and lower my expectations to a realistic amount, and up the calories!!!!!!!! Thank you girl!!!!!!
