Question-
Just wondering if there are any benefits to doing any ab work outs now at 270 lbs.
Like sit ups and crunches, before all the weight has come off ?
I recently pulled a muscle in my butt/thigh and need some alternative work outs until its healed.
I have been doing stuff with my arms - but what about my abs lol
All advice welcome, thank you
* also if youd like to add me on facebook I started a weightloss group there for me & some MFP friends.

I only rarely do sit-ups and never crunches, but I've done core work (planks in all their variations, supermans, bicycles, v-ups, leg lifts) since day 1. You won't see any muscle definition until you've burned the fat over them, but there's no reason not to start building core strength now.0

Yes. Because any *core* work will help build your strength all over and will really aid your back. Notice I said core, not crunches. Crunches are fine for one set of your abs. Just make sure you work on the other 3 sections just as much.0

basic crunches are great for like, the first week before you are conditioned and they are useless. Deadlifts and barbell squats build your core like nothing else.0

Thanks for all the awesome advice guys0

I am at 207 and I have been doing these ab exercises for 3 days now www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK6mKUEY09o&feature=relmfu . I have already lost almost a 1/2 inch around my waist since starting. This set of exercises are standing, so it might be good for you with your injury.0
