Need resistance exercises suitable for a beginner please!

Hi folks, I'm into my second week of weightloss (lost 6lb last week! Woot!) and have been only doing elliptical trainer workouts and a couple of crunches sessions which I will continue to do.

I am aware that it is important to do resistance training to build on muscle in order to lose weight, but I really haven't the first clue as to what exercises or equipment would be good for this, especially that which is suitable for a beginner.

I would sure appreciate any suggestions, though you might also have to tell me what the exercise is exactly!
