Maintenance Question

How long does it take your body to adjust when you up your calories once you reach you goal? How long will you gain weight before your body adjusts and starts to maintain the same weight (assuming healthy eating habits and excercise are still a way of life).

I haven't done much research on maintenance but right now I consume 1200-1340 calories a day and plan on increasing to 1500-1800 once I reach my goal. Maybe more... not quite sure yet.

I know answers may vary person to person but I want to get an idea of what to prepare for.

I am 25 lbs away from my goal weight!

Slowly increase your calories until you hit your maintance numbers will prevent any large gains (which would just be water anyways and would come back off). Your maintance calories will most likely be a lot higher than 1500

Took me about 3 weeks, because it turned out MFP gave me the wrong value.
MFP said I maintain at 2000. Did my own calculations, turns out I maintain at 2800!!!
I gained a bit of weight initially, just because of my metabolism being slowed down by eating 1500kcal/day.
Slowly add calories until you reach maintenance instead of taking a jump to maintenance.

I think your maintenance would probably be higher. I'm 5ft, 99lbs and I'm losing on 2,000(unintentionally)so I'm still trying to figure out how much I need to eat to maintain my weight. It depends on your age, weight, sex and activity level and I'm not even that active lol.
