Deli foods tend to be quite high in sodium. Tinned fish, I wouldn't say is really bad, unless it's specific brands that add salt or something. I had a look at John West's Tuna and it's only got like 200mg of sodium for the whole tin which is about 130g of tuna.

With meats, try getting chicken instead, not the deli kind. See if you can buy a whole chicken or something and cut off bits of the breast when it's cooked. You could boil, roast or whatever. It should have less than 100mg of sodium per 100g of the breast. Once you are done with the chicken, I tend to freeze a few and then make a chicken stock out of it and use it in rice. This way it isn't really all going to waste.

You could also buy the frozen bags of chicken breast instead.

Chicken breast is good. Throw a bunch in the crockpot, no need to add water but can add salsa if you like that and cook all day. Shred it up for sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc.

Can do the same for red meat and pork as well. A roast with a jar of pepperonis cooked all day is awesome, albeit a bit high in sodium fro the jarred peppers.

Eggs are really good for protein. Nuts are okay but have a lot of calories. Beans, quinoa are good for non-meat sources of protein. There is a low sodium tuna but I'll be honest, it does not taste good plain.

I fall back on protein shakes to get to my goals. Optimum Nutrition is very tasty as is Pro Performance (both available at GNC store or online).
