Best formula for calorie needs?

I'm trying to find out what is the best formula for discovering your calorie needs.

My husband did one based on what he learned from the ISSA, but it seems high, but I do trust him. He's a genius at math.

So what are some tried and true (at least for you) ways to calculate the amount of calories you need each day?

I used this one - and it's been working pretty well.

Under this method I don't eat back exercise cals either.

    Hope it helps!

I gave up on calculators and went with reality instead. Pick any calorie count you find from a calculator, try it out for a month or so, see of the results tally up, then adjust accordingly.

I think the Harris-Benedict equation is best.

    I like Scoobys calculator:

He has a link there to a more complicated version, if you want to sic your math whiz husband on it.

Ummm... well as you are on MFP - their numbers work pretty well for me!
They will come out lower than other calculators as they intend you to add (and eat) more calories when you exercise.

If you choose a realistic weight loss goal and eat your base cals plus exercise you get a pretty good number.
