For the life of me, I cannot manage to lower my sodium intake. I don't go way beyond my daily intake amount, but it's usually right there or a little over it. Suggestions?

I do have high blood pressure so I do watch my sodium intake. Eating fewer processed foods is a good way to watch the sodium.0

This ^^^^^^^
I struggle also because of severe water retention and also high blood pressure. I try to keep it at 1500 and my one suggestion is read every food you eat that is processed. I had a shock yesterday a made a big beautiful healthy spaghetti pasta salad, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, radishes, peppers, green onions, garlic. I used dreamfield low carb pasta because I am a low carber stay under 100 carbs. This was my dinner so last meal of day. I logged in 4 Tablespoons of Paul Newman Italian dressing and got the shock of my life, over 700 mg of sodium in it! It was too late I had already eaten it, and added to my other foods that were sodium the amount of sodium in total was 3,500 mgs! Now i am battling water retention and jump in my weight after a low calorie day. Drinking more water does not help me only cutting sodium helps me and it takes days sometimes as much as a week to 10 days just to get rid of it. I had a sodium shocker with a cup of knorr chicken stock also, over 2,500 for a 2 cups of soup broth! Lesson to be learned read before I eat processed foods. Banana Cream sugar free pudding 700 mgs of sodium.0 -

Thank you my dearest MFP pal, Miracle, for reminding me to check the sodium on the labels.0 -
Grow your own food? It's really tough and unless you have a medical reason I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're worried about bloating, that's just an electrolyte inbalance. Try increasing potassium to help with the bloat (real basic suggestion without going into detail). I worried about sodium for a long time, then I started eating corresponding amounts of potassium, sugar, water etc... It typically doesn't effect water retention in me any more. Your body is amazing, it will adapt if you let it.0

I'm sorry but I do believe sodium is something to watch even if you don't have high blood pressure or anything. It IS NOT good for you and it does cause water retention - which who wants that???? Plus I just feel a lot better when I don't eat a lot of sodium. I can't see what you're eating, but I also try to keep my sodium at a minimum. It really does help. avoid packaged foods, and pay close attention to labels. salad dressings, canned veggies, canned meats, frozen foods, frozen veggies w/seasonings, breads, chips/popcorn/pretzels, etc can all be high in sodium.0
